What do you think of people have stickers plastered all over their cars?

What do you of people who plaster stickers all over their cars promoting their religion, political stance, abortion stance, favorite bands, etc.. ?

Personally I think these people are insecure but they have a right to do it nonetheless. Plus I want to smack them over the head.

Daval 07-03-2003 04:15 AM

i think its really tacky and cheesy personally. Usually gives you a very good indication of the persons socio-economic class.

Bill O'Rights 07-03-2003 04:33 AM

I think that a lot of it may have to with the need to identify to a group, or a sense of belonging. It's easier, though, to put a bumper sticker on your car that says "I'm Pro-Life And I Vote" than it is to actually become active within an established organization. Don't tell me, I couldn't care less, tell your congressman. Now, granted some people are going to be extremely passionate (some, borderline fanatical) about a certain position and "wear their heart on their sleeve", as it were.

Or, I could be fulla crap and they're just trying to cover rust spots.

Personally, I paid too much for my car to be plastering stickers all over it.

troit 07-03-2003 05:04 AM

No bumper stickers on my car... just my personal preference. Hey if you want to do it ... fine but just like Bill O'RIghts said -- We all paid too much for our cars to be plastering them with plastic stickers. I mean if your going to do t hat then why not take a can of spray paint and throw your favorite logo on there?

Cynthetiq 07-03-2003 07:23 AM

I don't get paid to advertise any groups, brands, items, people, thoughts, or sayings, which is why I don't put anything on my said car. The fact that it already has an auto manufacturer logo and model is plenty enough as it is.

oblar 07-03-2003 08:31 AM

I actually pulled off the car lot's emlem off my car and placed a darwin fish in its place.

it lasted about 1.5 years before it fell off *sniff* I will miss you darwin fish! He now rests in my car.

as far as stickers. I don't mind it too much. It does remind me of the type of person they are and it is easy to spot. I guess the only ones I really don't care much for are the old political "Vote for me" stickers.. mainly I wonder "why?" in a few months it is old news..

i guess to me it is all their choice.. with my car type i couldnt picture me putting a bunch of stickers on my precious car, although i might see if i can revive the darwin fish.

Darkblack 07-03-2003 08:50 AM

I have two cars. On the Volvo I have A Darwin fish, a save Tibet sticker, and a “My kid is an honor student at so and so middle school” (my wife drives this car mostly).

On my firebird I have a Darwin fish and a “I vote for the environment sticker”. My wife also put this on but I don’t mind it. Only time I mind it is when I got the AC on. I feel like a hypocrite.

rockogre 07-03-2003 09:44 AM

I'm sorry but I automatically think "shallow part of the gene pool" whenever I see a car like that.

I can't help it.

I'm bad.

I know it.

butthead 07-03-2003 11:07 AM

I don't really think much about it. Maybe I might think that the persons vehicle seems expressive, but it seems insufficient for me to make any judgment on the person at all.

krwlz 07-03-2003 11:13 AM

I only have 2 stickers.....Both the NRA, one in each back window. I guess I am devoted, thats all. Got a hat too...wear it every day.

Other then that, I dont have any desire to advocate any group.

World's King 07-03-2003 11:38 AM

People do it because they think they look cool.

It's just that simple.

same. different people express themselves in different ways, no reason why I should criticise them for their choice of method.

I do find the political stickers humorous though when I see stickers for Bob Dole or Al Gore for president while driving :)

lafemmefatale 07-03-2003 11:59 AM

i like it.
primarily because some ppl just fuss over their car so much so that it stays the way it's bought...stickers etc. make a personal statement about the person, rather than just another mode of transportation. Especially when the stickers have a kind of novelty value like concert stickers or a sticker from your gr. 1 teacher that you had a crush on as a lil toddler........things like that are very cute, kinda like giving you a perspective on that eprson's life...but then again i'm a bit voyeuristic ^-^ jk

Psivage 07-03-2003 12:20 PM

I think they are rednecks.

lurkette 07-03-2003 12:56 PM

I enjoy reading them and making up stories about the people in the vehicles. I once saw a beat up pickup with a "Society for Creative Anachronisms" sticker and an "I love my wife - Promise Keepers" sticker. I thought that this guy must either be really cool or a real loser, either way I wanted to meet him just to find out.

I personally don't like to have any on my car - it marks you and defines you based on something that can fit on a 3x10 piece of plastic. I don't really want that to be peoples' first impression of me.

paddyjoe 07-03-2003 01:16 PM

I passed a van the other day that had a least four stickers, with all of them saying, `Please don't tailgate...showdogs on board.

I suppose it was good they reminded me, cause I'd be right up their ass if it was only the family mutt.

I cured my road rage tendencies years ago, but damn I had the urge to run this idiot into a ditch just for general purposes.

Halx 07-03-2003 01:36 PM

I was really surprised when I visited the East coast to see that the car dealerships over there put their names on the cars they sell. I was pretty put off about it. Hell, the guy who tinted my windows slipped a tiny sticker on one of my side back windows and I wasn't too thrilled.

The only form of expression I have on my car is my license plate frame, which reads, "Pedestrian Polo, score: 8,730,892" (actually the count is a little different but I cannot remember it exactly, I just wrote down some random #'s for the engraver to work with)

The stickers on a person's car dont define them a whole lot and I think it's stupid to pass judgement on that bit alone. I mean, I do think certain things when I see certain logos, but they are nothing more than passing throughts.

Fishies: Probably a family person, most likely a Jesus freak
Political stickers: impulsive
Humorous stickers: haha, that car is funny
Girly Logos (roxy, hearts, g.k.a.): if I speed up, I'll probably find a female in the driver's seat
Ricer logos (darkside, nos): my stock accord could probably still beat their ass
rainbows: they must get rear-ended a lot *rimshot*

jets 07-03-2003 01:49 PM

Yeah I the last time I bought a car I specifically told them I don't want any sticker with the dealers name on the car. I mean, what did I just buy? A billboard? So instead of a sticker they added a license plate frame with their name. I was gonna throw it at him.

I think stickers are taCKY on a car...once I saw a frikkkken HUGE ferrari logo on the back of an olsmobile intrigue!!!!!!!!!!! W T F?

I have none, don't waant none.

izzzzy 07-03-2003 02:32 PM

this thread reminds me of an eagles song "out on the road today i saw a deadhead sticker on a cadillac....." i dont mind them i even agree with some but on othe road i like to blend in and not draw any unwanted attention.

The_Dude 07-03-2003 03:04 PM

there's a limit, two at max.

over that, they look like trailor trash to me.

MacGnG 07-03-2003 03:10 PM

eh its their car no matter how tacky it looks :p

uncle phil 07-03-2003 03:16 PM

rock said exactly what i wanted to say...thanks, rock...

LittleOralAnnie 07-03-2003 05:48 PM

Some of them are really amusing to read. Personally I'd never put any stickers on my vehicle unless it an old beater. Something has to keep the rust in place ;)

spectre 07-03-2003 05:50 PM

I really don't care what anyone puts on their cars. I wouldn't want to put one on my car though.

vermin 07-03-2003 06:01 PM

I can think of better ways to lower the resale value of my car.
Buying a Geo Metro was just the first step...

WhoaitsZ 07-03-2003 06:48 PM

hmm. if anyone judged my character due to a bumper sticker or twenty I'd add one more that says 'fuck off you shallow bastard'

i mean come on. its a sticker.

i think they look kind of tacky, but i'm all for more expression. at least they care enough to show their thoughts.

MikeyChalupa 07-03-2003 07:57 PM

I have small window clings of my 3 favorite sports teams in the back window of my Jeep: Yankees, Rangers, Bills. Nothing more needed. It's mainly so that even though I have Virginia plates on my vehicle, when I go back home to New York to visit, hopefully the clings will convince fellow New Yorkers that I'm not a redneck tourist, I'm one of them. My driving might also do the trick.

I'm getting tired of seeing Calvin piss on things. It was funny for about ten minutes five years ago, now it's just plain stupid. Every now and then I'll see a pretty clever bumper sticker, but about 95% of them are just plain stupid.

Just had a thought: Aren't our sigs like our TFP bumper stickers?

Thank you, I mean really! Stickers? sheesh! maybe those people have sticker obsessions! I do, but I don't have too many stickers on my car. Just a Ralph (simpsons) decal, TOOL, System of a Down, and a Betty Paige sticker on and in my car. I just have a big collection that I don't want to use yet! The only ones that I hate are the annoying chicks that are too cute by putting 99% angel, or princess or annoying cutsie shit like that.

boredjerk 07-04-2003 12:34 AM

needless attention grabbers. I have one sticker on my back bumper covering a bad spot on the bumper. It says "I Love Wisconsin Cheese."

A couple months ago I spent $20 on five custom pink stickers that say "I take it in the butt!" Thought it'd be funny to stick 'em on other peoples' cars. Only used one so far.

Slims 07-04-2003 12:40 AM

Too bad they always forget to put one over their mouths too.

I think it makes a car look seriously trashy.

zfleebin 07-04-2003 01:12 PM

I cant find any sticker that I would even want to put on my truck. I can see a vehicles stickers as being a way to express oneself on the road but I still think its tacky looking.

bender 07-04-2003 02:02 PM

I think that its a cry for attention from people who are not smart enough to say something intel. themselves

Mr Scorcex 07-04-2003 05:06 PM

Ouch. A lot of people bashing this. I figure as long as the car is already junky it doesn't matter. I have a '90 saab that already had 200,000 + miles on it and sucks so I don't have a problem putting a couple stickers on it.

As an afterthought, I would also like to add that one should not judge a book by its cover.

Phaenx 07-04-2003 05:24 PM

The jesus fish thing (which I think is actually supposed to be two moons crossing each other?) is getting old. Also, political statements is a good way to get your car keyed.

Fremen 07-04-2003 05:34 PM

You people have cars? :D

Sometimes they hold the car together.

Y'all worry too much about other people, it seems.

I'm still waiting for my flying car, then watch out! The flying tacky-mobile. ;)

A little judgemental, but what I see being totally accurate. If I ever was going to put something it would be one if those "I brake for tailgaters" , but just slowing down works and keeps me from putting it on.

bermuDa 07-04-2003 06:51 PM

right now i only have one sticker on my car. it says "if a stranger offers you a piece of candy, take two!"

BlueBongo 07-04-2003 07:23 PM

I have no stickers on my car.. and I even peeled off the dealer's little sticker type thing they put on there. I agree that because I'm payin' out the arse.. I love my car just the way it is.

And I'll kick the ass of anyone that defames or damages me car. I was at school a few weeks ago when someone used rubber cement to put PETA crap all over my car and the car's of my fellow class mates late at night. Took at least 20 minutes to get all of the crap off. DON'T TOUCH MY CAR BASTARDS!!(@*!&*(@!!

Ok, I'm done now.

glasscutter43 07-04-2003 08:24 PM

I like the stickers that say "Please don't tailgate" and you can't read it until you are six feet from their bumper.

MSD 07-04-2003 08:37 PM

Thanks for reminding me with your collection of stickers that Jesus loves me, but he's going to like me a lot less in about 30 seconds if you don't get your damn car out of the fast lane while going 40!

That's what I think.

Then there was a souped up (not riced out) Tiburon with a bunch of religious stickers (nice ones, not pushy opinionated ones.) My brother and I looked at each other and said "Jesusmobile!" I wish I could get a picture.

I see no reason to put any sticker on my vehicle other than those that allow me to park in certain places or inform the police that they don't have to pull me over for not registering or emissions-testing my car.

KeyserSoze 07-04-2003 10:05 PM

For some people the stickers are whats holding their car together.

I love the one that says "my child beat the crap out of your honor student"

rs8001 07-04-2003 11:33 PM

paddyjoe's post reminded me of the "baby on board" signs that every third car and every other minivan had in the eighties. Was that somehow supposed to make me choose some other car to have an accident with? I actually took it to mean watch out while I try to settle the kids and wipe the snot of jr's face. I'm glad those are all gone now.

I also remember going on a family vacation back in the seventies. It wasn't uncommon to get an "I visited such and such a place" bumper stickers stuck to your car unless you had done something like placed the visors in a certian position to signal you didn't want a bumper sticker. Can you imagine the grief a place like that would receive if that was done today?

If I caught someone sticking something like that on my bumper, they'd be peeling it off at gun point.

enjoyduff 07-05-2003 12:03 PM

I love people who have stickers on their cars. I have several myself. It gives insight into thier personalities. What's wrong with that? Cars are so boring and people are way too uptight about decorating them. I have no problem with people expressing themselves through their automobiles. Plus, it gives me something to read and look at while I'm driving to work!

Balaniki 07-05-2003 12:51 PM

Wow ... I'd hate to meet up with some of you people.

I drive a 1989 Chevy Celebrity wagon, 100,000+ miles on it, back passenger door duct-taped shut (it won't open and it leaked). Right now I have no bumber stickers 'cause I can't find what I want. But once I do - I'll add them.

I spent $800 on my car. That was over a year ago. So far we've put about $100 into in repairs (not counting oil changes). I'll drive it till it dies and then I'll find another cheap but still functional car to buy.

I don't see the point of spending gobs of money on something you are in MAYBE 2 hours a day - if that. I want it to run and I want it to stop. Anything extra is unnecessary.

cliche 07-06-2003 04:41 AM

I reckon it should be illegal to have 'Baby On Board' without actually having a kid in the car! Still not sure what I'm supposed to do when I see one of those!

Maybe it's so that if you're out of control, speeding down the street towards two cars, one says 'BoB' and the other is... don't know... maybe "Be careful, you might need me, I donate blood"; you aim at the second one. At least they'll have some blood on file that's a pretty close match!

Frowning Budah 07-06-2003 07:30 AM

I think it looks tacky, but my wife has several on her car. She is a political activist, (did I say that in a nice way?), and wants everyone to know her opinion.

Skettios 07-06-2003 09:50 PM

Man, I don't mind bumper stickers, I don't use them, but I've seen some funny one's. I saw one today that said

"Kill a gay whale for Jesus"

and my all time favorite is

"Smile, Jesus Loves You... Everyone else thinks you're an asshole"

The thing I don't understand is all of the people that put the white and black country code stickers on their cars. I mean, what's the deal with that? Who cares what country you're from, or like or whatever. It's lame.

Its just another way to trash your car, and I really don't care if your other car is a millenium falcon....anyone with bumperstickers is just begging for attention. Thats my personal feeling on them

Rippley 07-07-2003 04:48 AM

We don't get too many bumperstickers American style over here in Europe, but I've seen several that, I assume, belonged to skaters, snowboarders, that kind of thing. All I can say to that is "its your car..." I've considered decals, like ones that'll come off again without too much trouble, but I want to be able to sell my car again, so no badass glue goes near my baby...:D

Paper Clip 07-07-2003 07:47 AM

It is like a t-shirt for your car - a way to make a statement without saying anything. Personally, I don't want to screw up my car's trade-in or sale value, so I don't use 'em, but, like t-shirts, some of 'em do make me laugh.

PatrickBateman 07-09-2003 10:03 PM

If your entire life philosophy can be summed up on a bumper sticker, you don't have a life worth living.

fallen_angel 07-22-2003 11:23 AM

I think they are gay but i cant say much cuz i used to do the same thing and id change them once a month and only on my windows so i could scrape them off. I did invest in one that said horn broke watch for finger cuz my horn was really broken and i had a bad habit of flipping people off. . . oppps the birdie flew away again!!

remiel 07-22-2003 11:35 AM

I divide stickers into 3 categories:

1) band type stickers. This is roughly the same as writing the name of your favourite band on your folder or your bag in high school. It's a little silly, but I kind of like it.
2) funny stickers. Again, just personalisation
3) political stickers. You might as well just tattoo 'asshole' on your forehead. If I cared about your political views I'd ask you about them.

Every single car I've ever bought (I live in PA), from my Fords to Mercedes and BMW, come with those stupid little dealer's stickers. The Ford guys put on stickers, back plate holder, and front plate holder! (plus, they drilled the holes in the bumper wrong  ).

Anyway, if you notice, the absolute WORST drivers on the roads are always the ones with Jesus fish. Not surprising...

I put in about 5 hours a day in my car, if not more. I've killed more expensive cars than I can count from that (most recently an Audi A6 and BMW 745i). For some of us, our cars are our livingrooms. Personally, I'd rather be behind the wheel than in a chair at home. In fact, on many days, I DO spend more time in my car than in my home. It needs to be the most comfortable thing that I own.

Kec 07-22-2003 04:48 PM

My bumper stickers tend to get me in trouble out here in southern Utah:

Necrophilia - That uncontrollable urge to crack open a cold one
Help end poverty, Eat the poor.
I only smile cuz I have no idea whats going on.
If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off.

Kaos 07-22-2003 04:55 PM

I think they make you look like trailer trash if you have more than 1.

Donkeypuncher 07-22-2003 05:05 PM

agreed, tacky.

I have a solitary sticker in the back window, a white oval with "26.2" in black. It's an invitation to anyone who knows what it means to come say hi. If they do, we already have something to talk about.

Yeah. If I really cared about your political or religious views, I'd ask and it's rude [to me] to be effectively shouting them to the world. The occasional funny sticker is ok by me, but I can't see putting any of them on my car.

My favorite of recent memory:
"Jerry's dead - get a job."

Quote:

FreshCoast 07-22-2003 05:06 PM

I have quite a few stickers on my car. Mainly just ski resorts I've visted and brands I support. If done correctly stickers can look good in my opinion. I am totally opposed to Political stickers, i have an honor roll student stickers, etc.

Kec 07-22-2003 05:09 PM

Yep, I put the stickers on my car to cause trouble. I think, however, that cops pulling me over to tell me they dislike my bumper stickers is a bit too far.

bumper stickers makes the car look bad. why would anyone do that to their car!?!?!
besides, all bumper stickers are corny and somewhat hypocritical.
"waaah! save the planet, by driving this car"

AnUnkind 07-22-2003 10:55 PM

I have successfully read these while retaining a very apathetic view of them. They just don't bother me.... worthless p.o.s. post, my god why am I saying this no one cares. jesus i am bored....

Arrow 07-22-2003 11:17 PM

while i think stickers on cars are kinda funny looking, im pretty sure people would think my wierd pc case looks just as silly...

mtdewrock 07-22-2003 11:29 PM

man you people are harsh.. i drove a 96 tacoma and i had two stickers in the window in the back of the cab. one was like the country oval stickers but said "PHP" and the other was a small round radiohead one. then on the (black) bumper i had two small black band stickers in the corner.

on my car right now (85 maxima station wagon) i have a big normal sized bumper sticker on the bumper for a local fish store, and a small black "The Internet Changed My Life" in the upper left corner of the rear window.

some political stickers arent bad. i might put a libertarian party sticker on mine just because i want more people to see the party name so it isnt so unknown.

i hate the calvin stickers though. and the cowboy up ones.

bobsonite 07-23-2003 12:04 AM

The only ones that really bug me are the "ricer" stickers (ads for performance parts that obviously aren't installed). They seem so....tacky.

I don't really mind 'em, besides that.

Da-Gimp 07-25-2003 02:38 AM

stickers are ugly....even the little one on the windshield that says when I need to change my oil bugs me.

Derwood 07-25-2003 05:53 AM

I just marvel at the fact that so many hippies and peaceniks and rebels and punks and so forth use bumper stickers to voice their dissent, and yet it's some big money hungry fat white repbulican whose company is selling them those stickers.

Just like when the Malcom X hats were all the rage. "Show your devotion to black power by buying an 'X' hat from a white guy!"

Giffax 07-25-2003 08:38 AM

Seen on the bumper of one vehicle:
"I'd rather eat shit than drive a JAP truck!"
The truck in question was a NISSAN!
A clever way to demonstrate the futility of bigotry, or was
the driver just really stupid?

Steve Carozzino 07-25-2003 12:20 PM

My car is a 1991 Chevy Cavalier piece of shit. So of course, to distract everyone from the terrible paint job, rusted everything and many dents, I decided to add stickers here and there to give it a "touch of class". Here are my stickers...

1) homemade "Sharpton in '04"
2) 311
3) National Rifle Association
4) NASCAR
5) AFI
6) Incubus
7) Confederate Flag on my back window

That about covers it. The Sharpton, Confederate, NRA and NASCAR stickers are for my amusement only. People get pissed legit when they see the "stars and bars" on my back window when I park my car in Philly. I've had a few scratches on my car because of that. It's all good, though. I'm gonna be getting a decent car soon anyway. One that doesn't make screeching noises when you go above 50 MPH. w00t w00t.

I really respect people's right to express themselves and if the best way for them to do so is with a bumper sticker, I guess they should go for it. I did, however, see one the other day that said, "Save a whale, harpoon a fat chick." I can't say I see the point in have something like that on your car. (Needless to say it was on a crappy truck driven by some gap-toothed yahoo)

My greatest fear is that in the future, my son will bring home one of those school bumper stickers and I will be forced to put in on my car since my wife drives a company car. Yikes!
