Adult frenulectomy

I've been thinking about getting a frenulectomy and was wondering if anybody out there has done so already or knows anyone who has. A frenulectomy is a simple procedure in which the frenulum, which attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth, is severed, allowing the tongue to extend further. In my case the frenulum extends all the way to the tip of my tongue, which means I can't stick my tongue out. Guess why I'm thinking of getting the procedure done. :p

In have had one all of my life and I would not want to have it severed. No one these days seems to know that they even ever had one. It surprises many.

I wonder if Gene Simmons had that done? Or was it just the cow tongue?

My sister had that done when she was a kid. It was pulling her gumline down so she had to get it. As I remember it was a real simple procedure.

My son had one (what the nurses were calling tongue-tied) and we had it cut. There were apparently potential problems with breast-feeding, speech, and well, yes we were already thinking of him not being able to do certain sexual things later in life. The procedure was extremely simple on an infant. Apparenlty there are no nerves in the frenulewhatchamacallit. However, I would think that there may be some extra work required in an adult to get rid of any excess skin.

i wonder if it would make you more prone to swallowing your tongue?

macmanmike6100 07-03-2003 03:50 AM

It was on a smaller scale, but I had a similar procedure done on my lower lip. There's a piece of flesh that attached the lower lip to the gum, toward the bottom of the gum. It was pulling on my gum and so needed to be cut back. I had it done under anesthesia last year (at 18) and it wasn't a problem.

I can imagine that the frenulectomy is similar but on a larger scale. I say talk with a doctor and, if given the OK, go for it.

nephew had it done...

he began speaking in complete sentences almost immediately...

well worth it!

tinfoil 07-04-2003 09:02 AM

I had a partial one. Hurt like hell, but it seems to have been worth not being able to eat solid food for a week.

I had it done when I was about 5. Don't remember it hurting much after the initial needle for the local anesthetic. Being able to talk as clearly as other people and eat all the ice cream I wanted was the immediate benefits.

I learned at 16 that there were also other benefits.

I had it done when I was eight. Because I couldn't curl my tongue up, my mom took me to a dentist friend of hers and she slit that little piece of skin. I can no successfully curl my tongue up.

maxero 07-30-2003 11:10 PM

i almost had it done, but didnt, and so it didnt hurt at all
does that help :D

BentNotTwisted 08-04-2003 09:56 AM

Guy, I would like to hear from you if you do have it done. Mine only bothers me if I stick my tongue out too far. Then the frenuwhatever scrapes against my bottom teeth and it hurts for a week or two. I guess that will teach me for sticking my tongue out! :D

RoadRage 08-04-2003 09:08 PM

I'd better not let my wife read this, she'll be begging me to get one. http://www.computerpannen.com/cwm/cwm/3dlil/eek2.gif

philmccrakin 08-05-2003 12:29 PM

sounds painfull, I cut mine once (dont ask how) and it hurt like hell

WhoaitsZ 08-05-2003 03:17 PM

If you did that, you'd never be able to get a tongue web:

Then again, you could always make more room for this instead:

When I was little I used to run with my tongue hanging out. Well I fell once and hit my chin on the edge of a coffee table. Bit my tongue in half. When they sewed it back on it healed fine but kept curling back into my throat when I slept so to prevent me from chocking they did this procedure. I can now stick my tongue out pretty far but I am not sure why this prevented me from choking on my tongue.

I guess this didn't answer your question hehe.

Collide, all I have to say about those pictures is ouch!

oh, and I wonder if that would cause a problem walking through a metal detector at an airport. Do you think he has to remove them all and put them in that little tray they give you?

collide 08-20-2003 11:09 AM

A friend of mine has about 56(?) piercings and we'd always joke about how he'd have to explain the ones in his cock when he goes through the metal detectors.

fastom 08-20-2003 02:39 PM

Oh geez..., went to Reno last year, at the airport there was a guy (not sure if gentleman is the proper term here)ahead of me in the security line wearing a suit . He must have been in his later 50's. He looked like an ordinary businessman.
He took his watch off, keys and change from his pockets and walked thru the metal detector... "beep".

They waved the wand, he took his belt off and walked thru again... "beep".

They waved the wand again, mainly in the crotch region... kept beeping. Next thing i see is he's holding his pants open and three security personnel are trying to keep straight faces.

As i go thru cleanly on my first try i hear somebody mention about "that many rings"
