Slurpees
Now I am a huge fan of them, if I am near a 7-11 I will go out of my way to get one. That being said I am getting really ticked off I am a purist and when I go in to a store and it is not really frozen (coke slurpee should be light brown/white mix for proper frozen), and i sadly have to say over 70% of the time it isn't, I just walk out. There are 7-11s in NYC that I have never found not once a good slurpee. Others where I will buy a smaller size since I known it is not frozen enough, and I just really want one (and that is rare).
Needless to say 7-11 is beginning to piss me off, but this Sunday since we are taking the car out (we live in NYC so this is a once a week thing) I will probably drive 5 miles out of my way to see if maybe I can get one . |

Yum, Slurpees. I don't often indulge; I can't take the sugar overload of a Slurpee anymore (not necessarily a bad thing). But if we're in 7-11 and I see Cherry on offer, I have to get one. 7-11 is only about 7 blocks from my house; it's definitely a favored late-night drunken snack destination amongst our group of friends. Usually in that case I'm more tempted by the Big Bite than a Slurpee.
Mmm...Big Bites.

Wow, you seem to have rather strong feelings for Slurpees. There was a 7-11 around the corner from where we used to live and their Slurpee machine was always out of order. In fact, it was inoperative to such an extent that upon entering the establishment in question and discovering that the Slurpee machine was in full operation that day, we would be gobsmacked. It was a rare treat for the shesus and myself to get to indulge in such a treasure.
I hope your travels find you drowning in Slurpees (metaphorically speaking, of course!)

Not sure if I've ever had a Slurpee as I've only been in a 7-11 a handful of times, but I've had Icees from corner markets, and Slushies from Sonic, all through childhood and adult years.
I prefer the Icees, but they're limited in their flavor offerings, while the Slushies are numerous.

For most things around here I prefer Wawa markets to 7-11 markets, but I hand it to 7-11 a Slurpee is better than Wawa's Icee, as long as it's not too slushy/loose as already complained about above.
Another similar item they have at Wawa that I like once in a while is their f'real shakes...they're actually called f'real. Vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry; you put the container of choice into a special machine that adds milk, blends it to whatever consistency you choose, creamy to thick...pretty good for something out of a weird machine. |

Blue Icees are great too. In there is a Dairy Queen around, their Blue Raspberry slush is perfect. |

I too am a fan of the Original Slurpee. Sadly, I live where the 7-11 isn't. The local corner mart Speedway, has a Slurpee replica type machine. Not an Icee thankfully as those things are atrocious. They are pretty decent as a facsimile of the original. There is a Speedway on my way home that has the Coke mix set just right, in that sweet spot between over fluffy, airy, and over syrupy, sticky. When it is right, it is near perfect diabetic bliss.
For the OP, the machine do cycle through freeze-thaw often throughout the day. If no sign is posted that the machine is out of order, you may have just hit it at a bad time. Wait a while, sometimes as little as 15 minutes, and it might be frozen up again. They don't feature them often, but I have enjoyed a Dr. Pepper Slurpee and the coveted Root Beer Slurpee.

I'm having a tough time trying to distinguish summer from winter in Australia. We do slurpees throughout the year here, but yes, summer is the peak time for the brain freeze.

I was such a sheltered child and didn't have slurpee's until I was like... in my junior year of High School but my old friend would make me suicidals at one of the two 7-11's by my house and they were indeed orgasmic...
I need to get another... I miss mixing pina colata, pomagranate and cherry together :3

My first job was cashiering at a 7-11. I really haven't enjoyed slurpees since.
