Snowbound!
Hello all--
Well, we're coming to you live from beautiful Louisville, Kentucky, where several inches of snow and ice have rendered most of the city snowbound. This is Snow Day 3 for me--no school, no work. Since Thursday is last day of my school/work week, I'm officially weekending. :-) In addition to being snowbound, my apartment is without electricity. Now, let me make a note that this is the second time in the past six months that my apartment has been without electricity thanks to an "act of God". A windstorm in September left me without power for a week. Now they're saying 7-10 days to restore power after this most recent ice storm. Dammit. Thankfully, I have a caring man in my life who offered me and my three cats a place to crash. So me, JD, my 3 cats, and his 2 cats are all playing house for a few days. It's been a hoot. JD and I have had a lot of firsts in the past 24 hours....who knew an ice storm would bring us closer together? Is anyone else snowed in? What are you doing to pass the time? Do you have power? I'm trying my best to stay quiet during the day while JD sleeps (he works nights), so I've been watching a lot of The Learning Channel and other quiet television. Today I'm going to attempt to get back to my apartment to check on the electricity situation (NOT hopeful) and get some more clothes. Wish me luck... My city can't handle snow very well. Of course, it doesn't help that we have 100,000 people or so without power, including a lot of schools. So the city is pretty much on lockdown...there are also a lot of semi-rural areas in the county, making effective road treatment a lttle easier said the done. For those of you facing inclement weather, how well are your respective cities handling it? Kentucky has declared a state of emergency and is requesting federal help.... So, let me know...how are y'all handling the winter? Anyone else snowbound? Kisses, Saby

I wish I were snowbound. I'd like to be able to go skiing in the park. I'd also like an excuse not to take my sociology midterm with a migraine.
We had a snow day in December but we haven't had any since. The kids here don't necessarily want any more snow days; they'll have to make them up at the end of the school year at this point. I also only want snow days on days I don't have to do my practicum work. It's hard enough trying to squeeze in all the hours I need at the middle school with their regular holidays and days off for grading and staff development. But it sounds like you're having a nice time

We got a bunch of snow here in Ohio. Not the most I've ever seen here, but a pretty large amount, on top of the 1" of ice. I can't wait for the spring.
Why can't the states help themselves? It should be the job of the state to provide utilities and road maintenance, even in a disaster. All of these states are claiming disaster status too easily. |

In the Philadelphia area we've had almost no snow this year, so far. This past week the kids had one day off from school but it was a pretty marginal call, at the most 2" fell and that night it was covered with freezing rain. My two boys are pretty pissed about lack of snow since they like to play in it...they even said something like "dad, we gotta do something about this global warming, this sucks" ...I like their reasoning but have doubts about the immediate cause of our weather.

Nice Bobby. Our snow came with about 4 inches of ice beforehand so it wasn't quite as fun.
Here's a few pics of my backyard and every tree either broken or layin down. and one looking down my street.

What a great time, Bobby!
We were snowed in for one day - our town resumed normal functioning pretty quickly. Luckily our county had considerably less snow than most. We took our bunny out to play in the snow. She dragged me from one end of the neighborhood to the other, running and burrowing and just having fun.
