Birmingham trip

Anyone here around the Birmingham, Al area? Dave and I are going to be there Feb 21-23 (Motley Crue concert is the 22nd)

Im looking for something fun to do while we are there and a good hotel to stay in (and by good I dont mean 180 bucks a night at the Sheraton lol) I used to live in the Pelham area when I was little, and I know its not to far from the BJCC so I dont mind staying in metro Birmingham, but the hotels Im finding seem to have crappy reviews. I just want a room with a decent bed/shower, no lightswitches in the headboard (a la Microtel) around 100 bucks a nite. Im currently leaning towards the Doubletree in Birmingham

oh..and no I dont want to do a zoo in February lol

We are thinking about going to Desoto Caverns, but havent decided.

Any advice/tips would be appreciated

I thought you were talking about Birmingham in the UK, was going to correct you thoroughly about your intentions.

I don't know if this is in the list of things you like to do, but I found the Civil Rights (museum? center?) to be totally great. It is across the street from the 16th St church that got bombed in the 60's and has awesome and sobering exhibits on the civil rights movement.

I also enjoyed going to the Sloss iron works tour.
