Do Girls Truly Want Big Firm Calf Muscles?

I have recently been exercising more often by walking around town. In doing so I've built up the mussels in my legs. I know my calf mussels are bigger than most girls since I have trouble fitting in to knee high boots. They are more bit for the slender leg I find. Anyway, the other day my boyfriend and I were discussing how firm my legs have gotten. He mentioned how he thought most girls would like to have bigger, firmer calf mussels. I think he is in the wrong. Not that I'm complaining about how my body has changed. I think it's awesome. I just want to see who's opinion is right on this mater.

Redjake 12-16-2008 12:04 PM

I think the consensus among most girls is that big calf muscles are not desirable.

Glory's Sun 12-16-2008 12:06 PM

I like mussels. They taste good.

how do YOU feel?

Ever since I became a runner in high school, I have had an "athletic calf" (as one shoe saleslady told me, while I was shopping for knee-high boots). It can make knee-high boot shopping a little more tedious, since I have to find a pair that has a little piece of stretchy fabric at the top, but otherwise I haven't had a problem with them.

There are times when I get a little bit insecure about my "chubby" calves, but for the most part, I know that they're like that because they're in good shape, not because they're flabby. I like being muscular and able to kick ass, in general. And to me, that makes all the difference. :)

Two responses...not bad

RangerJoe 12-16-2008 12:38 PM

Actually... my calf muscles are very low on my priority list. (;

spindles 12-16-2008 02:06 PM

nice shapely legs are great on a woman - and by this I mean normally exercised legs, not body building muscly ;)

SabrinaFair 12-16-2008 02:15 PM

I wouldn't say I want *big* calf muscles, but I love that my calves are shapely and firm. If they're a little bigger than most....then it's just more to love. :-)

highthief 12-16-2008 02:27 PM

I love strong legs on a woman, including nice, shapely calves - and to be shapely, they have to have a little bit of size to them, no way around it. The missus has muscular calves and they look fantastic when she's wearing a skirt or shorts - she gets a lot of positive comments and admiring looks.

Tully Mars 12-16-2008 02:41 PM

For me it's two fold- I like a firm shapely calf but I also don't like huge ankles.

skizziks 12-16-2008 03:43 PM

I would think walking would tone and slim the calf, not bulk it up or make it big. still, a firm calf is, in my opinion, more desirable than a soft flabby one.

Xerxys 12-16-2008 03:44 PM

Yeah baby, the feet are all that count in life.....

But really, firm and big isnt bad as long they are shapely.

I want a girl to be able to crack my skull like a walnut when its buried between her legs.

I agree completely.

snowy 12-16-2008 07:32 PM

My calves are muscular but trim. My best friend often says she would kill for my calves. But I would kill for her thighs--they're rock solid muscle. She's a volleyball player. :)

I prefer muscle over the alternative.

Craven Morehead 12-16-2008 08:15 PM

Aren't calf muscles really difficult to increase in size due to exercise? Other muscles will, like biceps but not so much with calf muscles. I'm sure I read this somewhere about how body builders either are born with them or not.

I like my caffs just fine. I love how much firmer they are. I didn't relies I could have such a shapely leg. I was just wondering how other women desired in leg shape.

drag0nmanes 12-16-2008 09:18 PM

Hell, I love me some nice muscular legs on a woman. And Craven, as far as I can tell from my own experiences running up and down stairs all day long and in and out of trucks can build them up pretty good. So size can be gained seeing as my legs before getting this job were pretty scrawny.

Martian 12-16-2008 10:05 PM

Your calves are quite nice. I'm a fan.

It's not really a size thing, so much as a shape one. Shapely legs are nice. Flabby legs are less nice.

Also, any muscle that is worked regularly will bulk up. That's just how these things work. Walking tends to slim insofar as any excess fat is lost. Once that's gone, there's nowhere to go but up, so to speak.

little_tippler 12-17-2008 05:04 AM

I never thought about it but I have naturally slim legs, and my calves are firm. I like my legs. I'd rather be toned generally than be flabby.

Calves take a great deal of volume to get them to grow, is my experience.

My chest might get big working in the 6-10 rep range, but my calves take soooo much more - I'd say I've put more size on from running and walking and playing soccer than from weight training.

Starkizzer 12-17-2008 02:54 PM

No matter how much I walk I have never noticed my calf muscles slimming down. They do firm quite a bit. I have what I consider to be larger legs as I have trouble finding tall boots I fit in as well.

As for big or not big, I think it all depends on the overall stature of a person. Small calf muscles would not look good on me since I am taller and of a larger build just as large calf muscles would not look right on a petite person.

Hyacinthe 12-17-2008 06:30 PM

I have legs that do what spinelusts photo portrayed - in fact mine do it just walking up stairs, I've always been a little self concious about them - especially the last few years when it seems fashion has gone to "look how skinny my legs are" skirts and pants.

I think part of it is genetics because my other female relatives also have firm muscular calves.

I don't think it's a bad thing exactly - I know I tend to get alot of compliments on my legs but I understand how you feel, despite the fact that it's a shapely curve to the back of the calf you can't help but feel a little guilty when pants that fit around the waist won't around your calves (thank Agnos for flared pants!) and buying knee high boots can suck. It definitely makes you feel less then dainty and feminine.

Still I wouldn't change my calves for a skinnier less muscled pair.

raeanna74 12-18-2008 06:35 PM

Big? No way

I've always had bigger calf muscles. Even when I was skinny, my calves then were nearly the size of my thighs it seemed. I hated it because there were so many skinny, thin boned girls in school. I felt big and ungainly even though I was healthy and not even close to overweight. No matter what I do, exercise, diet, or anything else I could think of... I cannot seem to change their shape much at all. The widest girth of the calve seems to move higher on my leg when I'm working out but otherwise my calves are indifferent to my body.

I would much rather have thinner calves. I've tried many of the same kind of boots you described and they're all made way too thin for me.

I second that. Especially if they are steamed in a white wine. The best I've had were at an old crabby shack in Prince Edward Island, beside the Woods Island Ferry dock. $5 for 2 lbs.

I wouldn't mind trying them off some girl's calf. Similar to the sushi on the girl concept?

As for muscular calves... well yes, nothing like definition. I like that too.

tcp 12-27-2008 12:33 PM

The safe bet is always skinny calves since you don't have to work out to look good.

If you have a muscular calf, make sure it has definition or you won't look good no matter how strong you are.

Also, if you are short, I would recommend going for skinny, unless you want to look like a dwarf.

What's that muscle that is in front/side of your shin? And how big does that muscle get? I am just wondering if people are concerned with how that muscle looks, too.

sprocket 12-27-2008 04:31 PM

I love girls with runners legs... or ballerina's legs... or beach volleyball legs ;) not overly muscular, but tone and shaped...

Legs with no muscle tone at all in a girl is not sexy even if they are skinny... the muscle is what gives them the curves.

genuinegirly 12-27-2008 08:12 PM

I enjoy my muscular calves. I wouldn't want them any other way.

vancityboi 01-02-2009 12:23 PM

imho i love girls with slender and toned calf muscles. as long as it looks proportioned to your body type...hmmm girls in heels *drool*

lostgirl 01-02-2009 12:47 PM

I wish mine were a bit bigger. They are nicely toned, but I have narrow caves. My sister used to call me bird legs when I was little, maybe that is were it comes from.

My SO says he likes my legs and compliments them all the time, so I should just let it go. I am tall and I've got lots of legs, I need to appreciate what I've got.

CinnamonGirl 01-03-2009 11:59 PM

I've always admired (and in some cases, lusted after, although that's a completely different topic) "soccer legs." So to answer your question....yes. :) I'm taking a weight training class this quarter, and I can't wait to see what my legs (and body in general) look like in a few months.

dlish 01-04-2009 01:05 AM

slim and toned for me any day.

i'm the #1 steffi graf legs fan
