I'm mostly a pen-user, but have lately been rediscovering the pencil. There's something I will always love about a freshly-sharpened #2 pencil. (has to be the old-fashioned kind, I HATE "mechanical" pencils)

I like a fountain pen or quill for the same reason, even though they're pens. Ballpoints just suck, especially the twist-retract kinds that all seem to slowly retract themselves as I write, and the skinny, slippery Cross brand that slide up through my fingers as I write. Lindy |

I prefer fat pens with comfy grips. Black or blue ink. Pencils tend to fade or smudge over time.
My favorite pen comes in several colors but I only have the one with black ink:

I like pencils (4H), as well as pens.
I like the ability to press harder with the 4H lead, as I have a habit of pressing too hard when I write. The pens I like (preferably black ink) are the slightly more expensive ones, the ones that glide smoothly over the paper.

pens seem more 'grown-up' than pencils.. cos you always had to have #2 pencils in grade school. I prefer gel pens with fine tips.

Depends on the job.
My favorites are: .5 version of the Alvin Draftmatic Pigma Micron (in various sizes) And, of course, my trusty Cross pen, custom engraved with "HEYWOOD JABLOME"

Pencil,
There's just something about the texture of a pencil that makes it feel more "real". As a sea cadet, I was taught to use pencil for ship's logs because ink washes away when it gets wet. Pencil however, remains.
