Driving during the day or during the night?
I was just thinking about this right now, do you like to drive more during the day, or more during the night?
I prefer the night, mostly cause thats when I was able to get most of my experience before my license, and was just curious on what others favored. |

I like day driving, because lights at night bother me. I can see with lights in my eyes fine, but I don't enjoy being blasted by a pair of flood lights coming at me at 100mph.
You do see cool stuff at night though, like deer, raccoons and cougars. And yes I saw a cougar, just outside of saratoga, tx

Night is nice for lack of traffic, and headlights aren't much of an issue on fun, narrow mountain roads. For everything else, though daytime driving is better; higher visibility, lower fatigue, and open gas stations are nice.

i tend to get really tired at some point early in the night, so i find it dangerous to drive at night for long distances.
in australia, if its a long distance trip, id rather sleep early, have a few hours sleep and then get up before dawn and start early. gets me out of the traffic early and onto the highway about sunrise to enjoy the scenery and the relatively quiet highways.

During the day, for driving and riding. At night there are far too many deer lurking on the sides of the roads.

Night if I'm driving to my parents' house. Preferably I like to start out at about 1-2am, get there just as Dad is making coffee. But that doesn't happen often anymore; with rising fuel costs I prefer to take the train.
Otherwise, day, definitely. I have bad enough vision as is.

Night driving -- the wee hours of the morning to be more specific.
I love getting up at 3 or 4 a.m. for road trips. Not much on the road and watching the sunrise and then stopping at an iHop after the sun has risen. Nice.

Headlights bother my eyes, so I prefer driving during the day. As a passenger, I prefer riding at night/early morning. Most of Utah is desert/semi-desert and it's much cooler when it's dark.

Shame its so fucking early, why can't early in the morning be around lunch time so i can have a lie in? There are many roads i like driving in at night, primarily because i know them so well and its easier to see when someone is coming round the corner your hurtling through when their headlights illuminate the place.

I prefer daytime, as my eyes can get to be light sensitive at times as at night all the lights can mess with my vision a bit. I like driving at night for the others reasons mentioned earlier in this thread, as long as it's not the busier time of night.

Night driving with windows open if it's clear out, heat or air on to compensate if necessary, and a hat or bandanna to keep my hair out of my face. Music (electronic, classic rock, alt rock, metal, grindcore, gangsta/horrorcore rap, whatever sounds good,) on the radio, but not so loud that I can't talk to passengers.

definitely day time... I don't like driving in the night. It's kind of scary if i'm not familiar with the roads. I don't like the light from passing cars or cars behind me, etc.

I love driving at night, but not so much anymore. Glare has become my nemesis, to the point where I'm thinking of getting glasses just for nighttime driving.

I love driving on somewhat warm summer nights with the top down. No cars on the road to slow you down and fewer cops to chase you. The possibility of hitting a deer always scares me a bit though. I rallied the Fiat out with driving lights for longer visibility, and I recommend them for all cars without great bright lights, they do wonders.

If I know my way around, and traffic is very light, and it isn't raining, I prefer driving at night. But night driving is hard on my eyes when there is much traffic, especially if it is raining.

I don't like to fly (although I will do it) and I love to drive! My SAAB 9-5 turbo is fast, comfortable, and can really eat up the miles. So I end up driving from Boston to Kansas and back at least a couple of times a year. I hate heavy traffic, (so what am I doing living in Boston??-I don't know) so time my driving to miss rush hours in Cleveland and Chicago (I-90, I-80) or Columbus, Indy, St. Louis, KC, if I drop down to I-70.
I'll leave Boston area after morning rush -about noon- which gets me to (and thru) Cleveland about 8-9pm. I stay in west suburbs. In the summer, that's a daylight drive, but in winter it gets dark about 4pm so half and half. I'll leave Cleveland mid-morning, which with the time change puts me in Chicago about 8pm. Chicago has really good traffic radio, so if the traffic hasn't cleared yet, I'll just stop and eat or take a nap at an Oasis on the tollway. Get thru Chicago, stay in Joliet, head West on I-80 (less traffic, fewer cops) or Southwest on I-55 (shorter) the next morning. Again about half and half or mostly daylight, depending on the time of year. I guess most of the time on Interstates I don't care whether it's night or day, but I don't care for night driving on two-lanes, especially if its raining. Lindy I HATE driving lights. Coming at me, that is. Especially on pickups and SUVs. Way too bright and most often badly aimed. If I flick my lights at them I get rewarded with high beams instead. Grrr! |
