Olympics - USA Sweeps Girls Gymnastics!!!

We did it!! Team USA swept Girls Gymnastics gold and silver with near perfect routines. China got the bronze as the usual meltdown happened. The Chinese girls went from gold to gulag.

I guess there is poetic justice after all.

Good night everyone!!

USA! USA! USA!

It was completely amazing! They really deserved it! The way the scoring had started out made my hopes go down but they totally overcame it. It seemed they were definitely being harsher on the USA girls than the Chinese ones. Oh well, they did and it was AWESOME! Hooray for the USA Womens!

Now I'm just annoyed I stayed up an extra 3 hours I didn't need to. And that I know the ending so I can't speculate out loud and risk spoiling it for my wife.

Sorry bud, it's my fault. I have long since given up on NBC's "Live" coverage and been way frustrated. My TV broke so I have been using alternate sources.

Due to the low interest in Olympics on this board, I didn't think anyone would be that into it and therefore watch it "live". This is actually probably my last post and thread on the Olympics because it appears no one on the TFP gives a shit, so due to lack of interest, I will discontinue my Olympic coverage threads.

I was actually watching this tonight and I have no idea if what I was watching was live or not.

I enjoy watching gymnastics more than most other olympic events. The sheer strength and skill needed to perform just boggles my mind.

I'm glad to see it went the way it did, especially after what seemed like some "suspect" judging early on with the vault.

You live on the West Coast, right? Or either in the Mountain Time Zone. See, NBC has been deceiving these viewers all along, for whatever reason. I'll have to see if there's someone out there trying to call them out on it. It's really funny for them to show this with the LIVE graphic bug on the corner, and occasionally pops in the time in Beijing "right now", even though I know what's happened in the event already because there's about a 2 hour delay in what I can track on the 'Net and what shows up on the screen.

On behalf of my fellow Mountain and Pacific time zone viewers, f you, NBC.

Ok, well, I should add... congrats to the USA gymnasts!

It did make me feel kind of creepy when they zoomed in on the little girls asses for a slow-mo that lasted 5 seconds of her bent over. Its a good thing I was watching with several other people so we had other things to occupy out time with during these creep-sessions.

Technically, a "sweep" is when you take all three medals.

Wooooo! The way the scoring was originally going, I didn't think it was going to happen...but then our girls totally kicked ass on beam & floor. Rockshow.

I actually teared up a little during the medal ceremony. I'm such a dork...

The prepubescent US girls beat the prepubscent Chinese girls in the all-around gymnastics at the Olympics, and now we're all feeling a little dirty.

I would have sworn my Mexican neighbor told me the Chinese girls took the gold, anyway thanks for clearing that up.

Yep, NBC needs to look up "LIVE" in Webster's.
It's still incredible to watch these athletes. Their talent, plus performance under pressure.... breathtaking!

China won the team medal. Nastia Liukin & Shawn Johnson won gold and silver in the All-Around.

I was really really hoping the Shawn Johnson would beat Nastia, because the former seems really friendly and competitive in a good, healthy way and the latter has a creepy dad and seems like a stone cold bitch. I was sad when the commentators said that it was mathematically impossible.

What? Are you saying I can't make judgments about someone's character based on how NBC edits coverage of them during the Olympics? What nonsense.

According to this site... it's 6 medals to US, 5 to China yes?

Gymnastics Artistic Medal Standings - The official website of the BEIJING 2008 Olympic Games

Which doesn't look like a meltdown. Or have I missed something... And China have two gold, including the overall team event.

Nastia trained in Texas with Carly Patterson, she deserved it.
**my opinion**
I would have been upset if China had snatched the gold and silver from the US...at least one of the girls won it.

I didn't mean she didn't have the technical skills or didn't put in the work required, but rather that she seemed really catty and self-absorbed about the whole affair. Johnson was a much easier person for my wife and I to root for, but we certainly were happy to have the US taking the gold, whoever did it.

I was kind of surprised at last night's outcome. Nastia had the better routine, and Shawn had the higher score. The Romanian girl was a tossup. Her routine was FLAWLESS. Feet planted dead nuts on every twist and turn, but, it didn't seem anywhere near the difficult of the other two.

A lot of it has top do with the level of difficulty.

So who else here was supprised by the Chinese gymnast taking such a high mark in the vault after falling to her knees on BOTH landings?

And who else has been following the investigation on the other girls age?
