Shutting Down Journals this Saturday

All,

I will be removing Journals from our site navigation beginning this Saturday. If you have a journal, please take care to export it if you wish to keep it. I am doing this to streamline the forum for better presentation.

what are our options with "exporting" and what is the best way to go about it?

LOM: Go into your journal. Click "journal tools" towards the upper right.

RIP Journals. *sniff*

I don't see a way to export comments. In some ways they're my favorite thing about my journal. Is there some automatic way to get those that I'm missing?

Heh, at first I thought you were being rude to him by just replying "blah blah blah", then I realized what his name was.
Anyhow, RIP journals.

No automatic way that I know of. I've been busy manually importing the handful of comments my journal had. It sucks, I can't even imagine if I had 5 or 6 times as many comments to deal with like so many of you do.

The way I look at it, comments, just like in real life, are fleeting things. Let them go.

i am having trouble with the lot of the journals.
it pained me when the images vanished.
it was like seeing that my house had burned down.

i am having trouble with the blog format.
i don't really like it.
but i also don't like rearranging my furniture.

a curious affection for routine i have.

o well.

Agreed. While this existence is illusory and fleeting, I've got some really cherished stuff in there from people who don't come here anymore.

Guess I'm breaking out my handy ctrl-c ctrl-v fingers again...

Well, I didn't mean to imply that the comments were not meaningful. Only that, like comments from loved ones in real life, you usually only take away the spirit, not the actual words.

Same thing. Journal tools. View comments. You can save them to a text or html (web page) file format.

In text format, you'll have to format them or copy them to Word, but at least you can get 'em.

I didn't even see "tools". I just spent a little over an hour copying and pasting every page and the more meaningful comments into Word.(even the borders went in as I just highlighted everything that was there)

Great, thanks. It took a little doing, but I managed to copy-and-paste the ones I care about into my exported journal text file.

I'm ready, Hal! Bombs away!
