Anyone here Longboard?
 

it's a really sad thing when one has a hobby but noone can share the greatness of it with him. I am the only person I know that longboards with a skateboard. I own a barfoot noserider and riding it is extreme good time. If anyone knows the pleasure of carving up the pavement please post and describe your board, and a good bust or something like that. You got the idea, now go at it!

oh man thats so strange, i don't own one myself but the girl stalking me just bought one. So im sure ill be hearing lots about it. The times i've been on them there fun

I longboard in the surf every now and then, but never had the pleasure of using on on the road...

I surf just about everyday. If there are no waves then the skateboard comes out. A long hill is almost as relaxing and fun as a real wave.

I live five hours from the beach. Damn, I envy anyone who lives close enough to the beach to surf or longboard.

its the only state that i've ever seen such a thing, I never owned my own board, i use to always ride a friends, he never used it, so it was practically mine :)

I know that feeling, carving on a longboard is a blast, you get some great speed, and carving adds for an awesome ride, I longboard more then i anything else on a skateboard, im horrible at doing tricks, and living in alaska kinda screws me over on trying to learn to surf.

I think i might get a longboard pretty soon, i haven't done it in a while.

I made my own longboard, I don't remember how long it is though. Made it out of birchwood. It's super fucking fun, but there aren't many hills in Florida. The only hills I can bomb are overpasses and the causeway going over the river.

I ride a carveboard. I got it when I moved away from the ocean and couldn't surf anymore. I love it so much, if you've got a good hill near you it's the best thing in the world. They are a bit pricy (about as much as a surfboard), but worth every penny. If you surf but can't get to the waves often enough, get one of these, and you will not regret it.

I dont know much about the carveboard, Though I have heard some horror stories about some hybrid longboards. Plus, paying that much for a board is pretty insane, I'd have to get a job first!!

The carve boards are pretty sick, but I don't have the cash to shell out for one of them..

i've been thinking about getting one for ages. I love riding the skateboard but as i can't do any tricks i've decided that long board should be the way to go. What i really want to know is how much like snowboarding is it? I would definately get one if gives me the same feeling as a snowboard.

Longboard skating is definitely a lot like snowboarding. It is not very similar to surfing on a shortboard, because with shortboard surfing you tend to pivot on your back foot and throw your front foot around (unless you are doing a tail slide or something).

Anyways, I think longboard skating is a lot like snowboarding.

Can anyone sugguest any other boards apart from the carve board? or is it really the best and the only one for consideration? remeber i really am considering one if it feels like snowboarding, not sure where i would ride around in london but still, if you can't snowboard got to do the next best thing.

Any sugguestion would be great. Whats the different between hard skateboard like wheels and the ones that crave have on theirs?

Yeah I'd check out the Freeboard. That thing looks pretty sick. I've never ridden one, but the concept is exactly right.

I've got a mini-longboard (sector nine, cosmic series i think). it's got the shape, trucks and wheels of a full-sized longboard but it's the length of a regular trick board. I use it for getting to classes, since I park off-campus. Given the chance I probably would have gotten a slightly longer board but I'm happy with the one I have

Back in junior high/high school I used to ride a trick board, but they are worthless as a form of transportation; I can really move around on my longboard; not only is it fun but I can actually consider it a vehicle.

I agree that if you want the snowboarding type board to get the freeboard. They are sick, and you can really go fast on them if you want. You can bomb hills, or catch the rails and carve, where as the carveboard is really only ment for carving. The carveboard gives more of the surfing feeling. I have not ridden one, but I heard that the Tierne Rides board is very much like snowboarding as well. Both the freeboard and the T-rides board are cheaper than the carveboard, but if you want the smoothest, most mellow, layed back board, you can't beat the carveboard. The Freeboard has urothane (sp?) wheels and the carveboard has 8in inflatable tires w/spring loaded trucks = smoothest ride in the world.

This may be a dumb question, but how do people stop on longboards? I've seen this guy going downhill at a good speed, and I thought he was going to die because I thought he was going to hit a car, or vise versa. I don't know how he stopped because he turned and I lost sight of him. So I'd appreciate it if somebody could tell me how people stop on longboards.

haha I tried once.. I remember my gf at the time was instructing me... it ended with both of us laughing and me hanging on barly for my life haha a rush :p

So i bought myself a longboard and been riding for around a week, i used to skateboard so didn't need to learn how to do it. However yesterday took a hard fall and now have ended up with the common skateboarders ankle. I mean it is totally fucked, swollen and bruised and can barely move it let alone walk on it. Not sure what relevence this has to anything just thought i would share it. Hopefully i haven't fractured it i'll see how it is tomorrow, may have to go to the hospital if it carries on like this.

Beware when skating because if you fall it'll hurt.

I have a friend that has a tierney board. He has convinced himself that he likes it but there are so many things that he just can't do that you would normally be able to do on a longboard. He has trouble pumping (so it's not that good for transportation) and it took him forever to get the balls to go down a hill because it seems really hard to ride. I think this board could be good in the right situation or if you just have money to burn (though there are so many other things that you could buy with that money that, in my opinion, would be worth it).

oh yeah, and after about four months of riding he had to buy a new wheel because his started being eaten away by the road. It also started making a rattleing noise around the same time.

To stop on a longboard you either have to go back up a hill, drag your foot, jump and run, or jump and trip, fall, slide, and enjoy the roadrash. If you get good enough you can try and carve the hill out which involves sliding your back wheels when you turn. That can slow you down a bit.

Yeah, one of the big misconseptions about having a board is that you will not hurt yourself if you are good enough. This is very wrong. If you are good enough you will just hurt yourself less and when you first start you just need to get used to falling (learning to fall is key). Most of the time it's just roadrash that longboarders get, I'm sorry that you fucked your ankle up man, I broke my foot this summer and it sucks.

A local highschool kid from my hometown just died on a longboard. Not trying to be somber, but I don't think I've ever seen someone longboard with a helmet. Just a quick reminder that it's a rather dangerous sport if you think about it. I personally chose to stick with snowboarding and surfing because the falls are much easier ;)

What were the events surrounding his death? was he going down a steep hill, or maybe hit by a car?

I really only use mine to get from point A to point B, and avoid all unnecessary risks, so I park in an area where I only have to cross the street once, and I always slow down and check in case cars are coming... the only thing i need to worry about are people on bikes and mindless pedestrians.

I skated for a year or two, and have been loking at getting a longboard, but I just don't have the money to drop on something I may not like. And noone I know has one, so a test ride is out of the question. Maybe if I go to one of the big skateshops in Providenmce they willl have one I can try. I really want to go snowboarding now.

Sorry for excluding the details Bermuda. He was basically on a slightly downhill-graded smooth street where lots of kids bike, blade, walk dogs, etc. He was holding to a car to catch some extra speed and he somehow fell "backwards" and hit his head. I know, the car part might make you roll your eyes. However I've boarded many places and even with a car in this area, we would go no where near as fast as other hills we'd bomb helmetless :( Just goes to show how quick things can happen.

BTW, he wasn't a pure idiot or anything compared to the next guy. He had just been accepted to George Washington University, was an Eagle Scout, and led the varsity track team. (I didn't know him but knew lots of younger kids that did)

That is a shame; it's amazing how resiliant and yet how fragile the human body can be... I guess I would categorize holding onto a car as an "unnecessary risk" these days, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't hold onto bikes and such to gain extra speed in my younger days. I guess the older you get the more you realize how dangerous your actions can be...
