buying beer over the internet

have you ever done this??? texas is a state that allows beer to be shipped to your home and i've found a couple of beer of the month clubs that i'd like to get in on from certain websites. if you've done this, how was it? any issues? thanks!

Why have I never heard of this?!

They probably don't allow this in Utah.:(

almost like "dial-a-brew..."

radioguy 06-10-2008 02:50 PM

yep, but it gets microbrews to my house that i can't get without a roadtrip! it's about 30 bucks a month for twelve bottles of 4-6 different brews...

Beer of the month from the vendor's perspective it's a good way to unload beer that's not selling in a normal retail venue. They can and do stiff you with with some old, skunky and weird beer. Occasionally though you'll find something really nice that you might not normally pick up, so it can be a way to try a lot of variety.

While I've never ordered from one of these "beer of the month clubs", I can imagine that there is a strong probability of them sending you something that just doesn't move otherwise. This is one reason I started home brewing.

Other than than, I've found two liquor stores within an hour that offer a wide selection of brews, two within a half hour with slightly less variety and my local liquor store will order me whatever I want.

I have also seen on other forums where members will trade beers from one area to another.

radioguy 06-10-2008 04:20 PM

i've kinda wondered how they pick their beers...i guess it makes sense to have those that don't move be the ones they send out. i've checked about 6 different beer of the month clubs and none of their beers overlap monthly, so maybe that isn't always the case.

Don't get me wrong, these may be fine beers. But you are looking at 15 bucks a six pack and they may be styles you don't care for. I would have been inclined to do it too, but I found other options.

Same with "sampler packs." You always end up with that fucking chili-flavored beer.

Chili beer is delicious. Rogue Brewery makes a great chipotle ale; I recommend giving it a try. Another local brewery makes a special batch of chili beer once a year, and I always look forward to it--somehow they manage to create a beverage that is refreshing and a kick in the pants.

<3 chili beer. But yeah, the *-of-the-month clubs are generally a rip off. :|
