Blogging

I'm going to Guam for a few months to work at a resort and I really want to let people keep up to date on my shenanigans. I've done an Email list in the past but someone recently suggested writing my own blog. I thought this could be fun but I have no idea where to go for this. I mean, I could google it but I'd like some opinions on which blogsites are the best for hosting and stuff. I dont write code and the easier the site navigation is the better! Thanks in advance!!

If it's for people here, you can click on Journals at the top and start your own.

Otherwise I guess Livejournal or Blogger are the most popular. Facebook and, err.. that other social networking site whose name escapes me at the moment both have blog features as well, I believe.

myspace.com :p

I suggest wordpress.com, that's what I use. I've used blogspot.com in the past, but I enjoy wordpress much more.

I second wordpress.com. I'm much more impressed with their software and website compared with other blogging services.

Are there any Blogging sites with a TFP feel to it:

You know, posting and hiding text feature.

little_tippler 05-20-2008 02:40 AM

wordpress is what I prefer

speshul-k 05-20-2008 05:54 AM

Wordpress is by far one of the more superior blogging engines out there. On top of that they will also host your blog for you if you don't have your own hosting etc

www.wordpress.com and www.wordpress.org will be explain to in more detail.

augi:
most blogging sites have a break command that allows one to put in a break point for the front page, and then click to see more for the full article.

On LiveJournal, it's called a cut, and most communities on LJ require posting with a cut.

Hmmmm? :orly:

I'll look into that. Turns out my Gmail account automatically subscribes me to Blogger so I will give that a try

I don't think I like Blogger. I don't have a hide feature for my host-esque blogs, and I don't think I can insert the HTML code to make that feature work either.

@host: I completely understand why you do what you do

@ Those of you using WordPress:
Where are the blogs? Is it a private community?

I have been trying to use this cut feature and it does nothing. Every time I select text to be "cut", it always shows up, nothing is hidden.

If you switch over to rich text mode while posting on LJ, there's a button in the top bar that will set up the cut for you.

For those of you as curious as I am:

LiveJournal's editor is behaving improperly for me, but then again, when don't I have technical problems? The problem is that the lj-cut tags are being implemented properly. Instead of lj-cut text="...", I receive lj-cut without an abstract and then the whole article shows up. Bizarre, and only I am the only person in the world experiencing it.

So, why is the consensus that wordpress is a better blogging site? Any good reasons or should I just figure it out for myself?

I believe that wordpress is the best site because you can use their site, or if you really want better configurations you can use their software and host it on your own server.

there are many plugins and themes available for wordpress.

greyeyes 05-22-2008 03:42 PM

I think I might have missed it on the site, but how much space do I have available through wordpress?
