Yesterday I was on my way home and I was thinking about my recent dumping of a project I've been trying to get off the ground for about two, two and a half years. I finally realized that I just didn't have the equipment, the funds, or the right amount of committed people to finish it and, as I only had a few scenes shot and only two or three really worth jack shit, I called it quits until I could afford to get it done.
So, I had decided to go ahead--since I already have a lot of the necessary equipment--and shoot a few shorts while I go through the summer and college and all that, and save the features for another time, or until I can come up with an exceptionally cheap script. Anyway, I then was confronted by my narcissistic side and decided that I wanted to share my artistic work slate for the summer, and open up a thread for any other Tilted artists to share theirs, maybe throw out their ideas to see what others think. I'm not sure if my idea is clear in the least, but I digress.. My foremost project is my novel, V.C. - Venereal Curse, the rough draft of which you can read in Tilted Literature, and which I hope to finish by the end of the summer. Secondly is my short film, which is a sort of a Cabinet of Dr. Caligari/Frankenstein homage, with a bit of Wicker Man thrown in for good measure. I'm not sure yet if I'll shoot it or something else, but it's currently what I'm planning on doing. If I go through with it, I hope to finish it sometime before October. Then, I have a script called Vile Lance, which is a Troma-inspired action film about a serial killing rapist druggie aiding a group of Jews trying to stop the resurrection of Jesus, who in actuality is an evil demon. After that is a script I might first write as a short story called Posey, which is sort of like Lucky McKee's Sick Girl, but more psychological and about plants rather than bugs. I couldn't possibly produce it as a film until I have about $25K, but that just gives me more time to work on it. Other than that, all I have are some short stories I want to write while I have the time over the summer. One's call "Stay Hydrated!", which is a zombie story about a secluded town surrounded by the living dead, which were spawned via a contagion in the water, so the people have to find other means of satisfying thirst. I was also part of an improv workshop yesterday, and I started thinking after one skit about an allegorical short about a man falling in love with and trying to marry a robot and being called out for it, as sort of a statement about gay marriage, but with a Philip K. Dick-esque spin on things. But that one is no more than a thought.

Sheesh, I had a whole long post typed out and my browser died....
My slate, as it were, is pretty simple. I intended to simplify it further by cutting out a few artshows and instead, I'm busier than ever. I did the first of the year last week; did well and, with feedback and requests from customers, began printing for this weekend's festival in the same town. Quite randomly about a year ago, I'd begun photographing the diners I and my rider would eat at after a day of cruising backroads in search of another photographic subject I was doing. Seems I now have a "genre" style. These diner photos keep getting voted into gallery shows, so my "slate" consists of printing and framing for them. I have two openings, a day apart, in two different cities. I have established myself at work as the go-to person for original portrait composition designs and advertising so I will continue to challenge myself with each new order. What started out as one of those "toss it out there" ideas has really taken off with the clientele, much to the owner's delight. The concept is an easy one-design a single sheet composition of portraits, each in a personalized designed format according to the wishes of the customer. I design faux matting and framing in chosen colors or what I think fits the face and personality of the subject. I hope to continue my "diner hunt"-at least until I tire of it. I need to redesign my website, if I could just find the time. And I need to add to my equipment Last edited by ngdawg; 05-19-2008 at 06:37 AM.. Reason: d'oh! Faux Pas means mistake |

My slate primarily consists of getting my photography business off the ground, mostly freelance and portraiture work. We shall see.
I have a few photosets I'd like to get taken care of. One of which is a gothic style set across a few local cemetaries with TotalMILF as my model. Sure it's played out a bit, but I have some ideas that might keep things fresh. I have a script I've been toying with for about a year now that I'd really like to get written. Sort of a dark film based on the song "Necromancer" by Gnarls Barkley with an off kilter youth twist.

Took my last final yesterday and while I still have to manage around an insane work schedule, I can already feel the creative juices build from an intermittent trickle to a slow steady stream.
The misses and I are going on a Brooklyn gallery tour today (she's obsessed with Murakami) and we're hoping to exhaust the 50 rolls of film I just bought by the end of the month. It's going to be a beautiful summer.
