The fiddleheads are just about full-on ferns now. These were taken 2 days ago.

Mid June is the perfect time of year for my favorite flowers:
Mountain Laurels They grow wild in my area in the sheltering pine forests. The buds are so precious before they open; like little candy drops.

I have a container of violas on my front porch I wish I could take pictures of, but alas, our digital camera has died a most expected death. The violas are literally spilling out of the container--I fuss over them so, deadheading constantly, sprinkling some coffee grounds over the soil every now and again (thanks for that tip, genuine_girly, it's very useful). They're so pretty, and I'm so proud of them.

Trillium blooms in the redwoods around this time of year. One of my favorite times to go hiking.

The dogwoods
The dogwood trees started blooming in early July in New Hampshire.
They are still going strong; the flowers will probably make it into August if we are lucky. I've had my eye on this dogwood in Amherst for several years. This year it is spectacular. I just wish I had a camera that could do it justice.

Bees : I love dogwoods. Thank you for sharing those vibrant photos! Last month we saw dogwoods in bloom in Seattle. I once visited Yosemite while the dogwoods were in bloom - such a treat.
DaveOrion: Glads are great. I love the second one best, the lighter peachy one. Today, in home gardens along the central coast of California, I enjoyed: Agapanthus Crepe Myrtle Commelina Hibiscus Daylilies Geraniums

You definitely gave me nice closeups of the floral bits, which will help with identification.
Hmmmm which continent are you on at present? Are they in landscaping or on a trail somewhere?

it was in a park, so it was definately landscaping
im in the middle east, so that'd make it asia. but seeing that the natural landscape is sandy desert, its probably not an indigenous species.

This is a mighty fine thread to nudge.
Mid-May in Southern Wisconsin. Top left: Marjoram in the foreground, purple creeping phlox behind. Top right: wild phlox. Next: This is a wildflower whose name escapes me at this moment. It's very Dr.Seuss. Next: A dark purplish black parrot tulip. And: Tulip Insides. [IMG] [/IMG] Last edited by ring; 05-18-2010 at 09:25 AM.. |
