PonyPotato 05-12-2008 02:25 PM

Mine means "Jupiter Pony" in Welsh (or, really, pony jupiter because of how they order words..).

ktspktsp 05-12-2008 02:33 PM

I wasn't thinking.

Derwood 05-12-2008 02:38 PM

You are correct. I wiki'd it. I was under the impression Def Leppard had four members and, apparently, so was the person who originally told me the joke.

monokrome 05-12-2008 02:44 PM

Hmm...

Simplest of color schemes is monochrome. I like keeping things simple, and I like replacing hard `c`s with hard `k`s.

So, monokrome it is!

Jadast 05-12-2008 05:12 PM

1st 2 initials of my first, middle, and last names.

Guess we are in the same boat.

I originally signed up for the porn, but then realized that I liked it here and now I stay. blahblah for just some random crap to fill in, and 454 for the huge engines that sound so nice.

Lindy 05-13-2008 08:32 AM

It's a diminutive of my last name. Like Pete for Petersen. My given name is Sophia, which I absolutely hate, :grumpy: and avoid using as much as possible. Lindy is also my Dad's nickname, (which leads to occasional confusion when I visit home) and I laid claim to Lindy early to keep one of my brothers from using it. It's been my nickname since I was a child. It's also pretty much gender neutral. I like it.:)
Lindy

dd3953 05-13-2008 10:31 AM

It's my email address, and the handle I've used for 98% of the website I've joined since 2000.

My first name starts with a D and so does my middle name. And if you dial the number "dyke" in your phone you will see the numbers 3953 (which is also part of one of my tattoos). So there you have it dd3953.

abaya 05-13-2008 11:48 AM

Think I've told this story before, but oh well.

Ktspktsp brought me back a beautiful abaya (a really nice, embroidered houserobe--NOT the abayas that women in Saudi Arabia wear from head to toe) from Lebanon, the first year that we were together... also the first of 2 years of our long-distance relationship. I lived in a basement apartment at the time and froze my ass off in the winter, so I wore the abaya almost all the time when I was at home, to keep warm and to feel a little bit closer to ktspktsp. I joined TFP during that winter, and was wearing it most of the time while posting.

Sometimes I wonder if people ever think that I'm a Muslim woman or something when they see my handle... to be honest, the thought never occurred to me at the time. I just loved my cozy abaya from my boyfriend. Anyway, it stuck. :)

Lucifer 05-13-2008 12:17 PM

When, like so many others, I stopped lurking on the titty board and starting posting in other parts of the forum, I used the handle Prince of Darkness, just cause I thought it was badass (which I am incredibly not) and a cool handle to have on what was essentially a porn forum. After the server died and was reborn, I tried to re-register Prince of Darkness, but for some reason, it wouldn't let me, so I nabbed the handle "Lucifer" instead, partly for it's connection to the first handle, but also cause it's a way cooler and way more badass handle.

ratbastid 05-13-2008 12:24 PM

I didn't choose my handle.

It chose me.

thanks for the feedback... I drink from the water of life!

My original system login ID back in 1988 (for work) was my first two initials plus the first two letters of my surname, which turned out to be:
JEDi.

I've always liked that, but find it difficult to register this handle without adding several numbers. So, Leto kind of spoke to me. I guess I'm a geek.

StellaLuna 05-13-2008 01:58 PM

My favorite picture book, about a little baby bat who tries to be something she isn't.

Grasshopper Green 05-13-2008 04:48 PM

My hair has been, at times, the bane of my existence. I like mythology. The name was inevitable.

Speed_Gibson 05-16-2008 01:02 PM

I pulled from the same source that I use for all of of mine online handles (and a good portion of passwords) - the Golden Age of Radio. I chose the juvenile flyboy (not a bad series at all) over the western character name that I use on Opera and other places.

Strange Famous 05-16-2008 02:23 PM

named after a rapper.

Im very impressionable, if I had joined at a different time I might have been:

Indrid Cold
Mr Wednesday
The Gull Catcher
The Struggler
The Word King
Alyosha
The Half Blood Price
Fever Dreams
Imploding Lights
Things That Can Break
Champagne Chris Kanyon

etc etc

nowadays I think I'd just pick Adam

PayUp 05-16-2008 10:27 PM

If you don't "payup' I will repo your shit.

Jenna 05-16-2008 10:31 PM

Honestly, I never thought I would get connected to this site so I used a name that I used when I was young, and thought it was cute to be called Jennaboo... then to make it even more stupid, I added the 4u. Real clever.

I should probably change it.

dlish 05-16-2008 10:40 PM

Jenaboo...

u've joined the long list of people who joined without the intention of staying.. welcome to the club!

if u do decide to change, dont do a drastic change..its always good to keep a part of what you were...

i have no problem with jenaboo

abaya - when i first saw ure handle i knew it was a lebanese thing..cos most people in the middle east call it by other names. we call it abaya in my household.. but i did think u were lebanese initially..at least i was close anyways.

Yeah, I was thinking like Jenna or something simple, which is more like me. But oh well, it's not that big of a deal.

dlish 05-16-2008 11:41 PM

it isa big deal..if ure thinking about it..

try being dlishsguy.. in the end i settled for dlish

Ha! That's funny. I guess I thought it was called an abaya in other places, too (Iraq, Saudi, etc) but I could be wrong. That's just how American journalists tend to write about women's clothing in those countries, I noticed later on (wearing an abaya).

Anyway, yes, you were close... married to a Lebanese (and he doesn't have an abaya himself, actually!). :)

Charlatan 05-17-2008 05:38 AM

I chose my name because it best describes me...

just wait and see my yemen pics! :) should be up soon!

grumpyolddude 05-17-2008 07:31 AM

My standard reply: "ask the people who work with me."

Real story goes back several years ago, when my oldest son got interested in bowling, we used to put nicknames into the scorekeeper, rather than real names. My son was, and still is "Slimmy Hoffa." Craig was "Big Shirley" (an old sit-com reference). There was "Tdub", "Smoooooooth", "K-Mac", "Big Ern" (now "EAZEE"), and me, the "Grumpy Old Dude." Bowling scorekeepers display initials, so I was on the board as a bowling GOD.

These days, I'm a little bit mellower than I was, but I can still channel "Grumpy "when the situation calls for it!

Plan9 05-18-2008 01:50 PM

It's everything I was and am now and probably will be.

Just crammed together into one word.

speshul-k 05-20-2008 06:04 AM

Anything else I wanted was taken, so I randomly picked something unlikely.

CinnamonGirl 05-22-2008 05:06 PM

Except for my very first BBS handle, all my usernames have been songs, or references to songs. "Cinnamon Girl" (Neil Young) was a particular favorite of mine.

im from vancouver thus vancity and boi well i was 14-15 when i made that nick :P

Tirian 05-24-2008 03:40 PM

Tirian is a character in the Narnia books, the last King of Narnia, who has to defend his kingdom against subversion and invasion. He is well-respected by the Narnians, and a skilled swordsman. He is descended from Prince Caspian, and the son of King Erlian. His closest friend is Jewel the Unicorn.

MoonDog 05-25-2008 05:51 AM

Ah, MoonDog is just a name I picked up when I played footbal in high school. It just kind of mutated from the name of a place close to where I lived.

levite 05-25-2008 07:40 AM

I belong to a bunch of religion/spirituality/magic/occult boards, all under the handle Levite, which I picked for the simple reason that it's a factual description. I have lineage from the Tribe of Levi (with occasional exceptions, the only one of the 12 Tribes of Israel that still tracks its descent), which is the priestly tribe. I actually found the conversations on this forum first, specifically the philosophy board, so it seemed appropriate.

On other boards/sites, I go by/have gone by: Taliesin, Llassar (I have a thing for Welsh legendry), SwordBoy (one of my hobbies is broadsword fighting), JokerSmokerToker12, DistantShip (as in, the one on the horizon, "Comfortably Numb"), TongueThing (it's a gift), BigHairyJew, and HornyOlJew (both self-explanatory)....

joseph 06-15-2008 01:48 PM

On other web sites, Joseph is usually taken. I use Fafafofo, which is a variation of Bababooey from the Howard Stern Show.

sapiens 06-15-2008 02:10 PM

I didn't think much about my choice. At the time, I was looking for a biological reference. On other sites I have been Mullersrachet (another biological reference).

radioguy 06-15-2008 06:35 PM

when i found this site, i was in radio...therefore, i was a radioguy...

khe1138 06-16-2008 08:52 AM

I chose mine because I'm a George Lucas fan, and one of my favorite movies is THX1138. So I just substituted my initials for THX.

The Faba 06-17-2008 02:29 PM

It's my name, with a 'The' in front.

Amaras 10-29-2008 06:01 AM

How did you choose your online nickname?

I've always been curious about how people choose their own nicknames,
passwords, etc...
Since I'm not going to ask you about your passwords (but if you insist on
telling me please PM it to me ), how did you choose your nickname?

Mine came about back in the mists of time when I was still drinking.
Grolsch is a Dutch beer which comes in a really neat bottle with a kind
of flip top lid.
See it here: Excellence in brewing since 1615......

Basically, I was trying to enter a nickname, and it kept coming up
"already taken" or whatever. Monkeyboy was one choice, as when I
used to run warehouses in my youth I was known for my fearlessness
when it came to climbing up racking (hey, I was drinking back then).

Cap'n Crunch was another. I got that one playing football. Named Captain
of the football team my senior year. I was a running back, and three
opposing players were carried off the field on stretchers that year
while trying to tackle me (again, I was drinking/using at the time, I'm not
proud of what happened).

So I chose Grolsch, thinking in my naivete that few others would know
what it is.

Your story?
