I'm never cutting my hair again!

This kind of pisses me off, 3-4 years ago I let my hair grow pretty long, and I would have kept growing it if I hadn't been offered a nice sum of money to shave it. My mom or dad has always cut my hair, my mom is an amateur barber that will cut just about anyone's hair, my dad gives a good 15 second military haircut which is how I usually like my hair, It's under my hat 99% of the time anyways so it doesn't matter, but now both of the refuse to cut my hair with an excuse they don't want to do "that" to my hair, "that" being shave the nappy shit off, which they've had no problem doing for the last 20 years. I just don't get it, 3 years ago they hated my hair long so much that they payed me to cut it, now I can't even pay them to cut it. Yah it probably sounds childish and I expect a few "grow up" replies but it really pisses me off. If I had known that they would hate my hair short as much as they hated it long I wouldn't have cut it at its longest. When it's long its nice and flat and stays in place, when its short its clean, flat, and stays under my hat perfectly. The way it is now, its curled in every direction because it's not heavy enough to flatten itself out, and its to long to keep cleanly under my cap, it just totally out of control. So I decided I'm never getting another haircut. Then I won't have to go through thisdamn 'shaggy' stage of "to long to be considered short and to short to be considered long."

I'm running on about 3 hours of sleep in the last 48 hours so please ignore the grammar, spelling, punctuation and seemingly endless ranting.

Okay, here's one: go out and find a decent stylist.

Welcome to America, my friend. In this country we have an entire industry devoted to hair maintenance. Enjoy.

Reese 06-25-2003 10:03 AM

It's not about them not wanting to cut my hair, its about them being so fucking judgemental about the way I like to keep my hair. Every one of my family members are like this about MY hair. Cut it! let it grow! Fuck it's my hair, they had no problem with cutting it before.

I'll say it again, I know it sounds childish, but they always bitched to get it cut, now that I want to keep it cut they bitch because they dont like it short. They JUST now started being bitches about trivial things like this, thats one of the reasons I'm pissed.

i almost cut off my locks at the beginning of the year when I was getting more and more desperate for a job.

I did just trim 6" off of it about 1 month ago, so now it's in the middle of the back instead of falling just past my waist.

I'll cut it if the terms were nice, but since the wife likes the long hair.. it's going to stay for as long as I can still keep it.

Shokan 06-25-2003 10:24 AM

Its your hair. Do whatever the hell you want with it. I can't see why this is such a huge deal with everyone.

Charlatan 06-25-2003 11:14 AM

Why care what your parents think? Keep your hair how you like it.

PS Keep your unruly hair under control with some sort of "product"...

boredjerk 06-25-2003 11:28 AM

It's just hair. I had dreadlocks for years. After gettin' rid of 'em I can't believe I ever put up with that shit for so long. Long hair seems now like some kinda pathetic cry for attention, like shitloads of piercings. "Hey everybody, look at me. I'm cool!"

oldtimer 06-25-2003 12:11 PM

Hair, pah, fuck with! Cut it yourself. I love seeing how I can do when I have to rely on myself for cutting my hair, and the results are good. :D

If your going for the bald approach there's not much you can do to fuck it up. And if by some chance you do, fuck, it grows back anyway who cares what people think.

Hey, grow up! ;)

I say let it grow. I'm a guy with long hair, and plenty of people tell me to cut it, but screw them. I like my hair long. I figure I should keep as much hair as I can since I can tell my hairline has started to recede somewhat.

Since you are currently in the "no man's land" of hair length, you shoud use gel or something. I used the cheapest gel I could find and combed it back like Steve Martin in "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels." That worked well enough until I could get it into a ponytail.

If you truly care this much about what everyone thinks of you, you are going to have a shitty life. Do whatever you want.....your hairstyle isn't hurting anyone.

Personally, I like my hair short because I have to do NOTHING to it everyday and it dries in about 2 minutes.

people change, it happens. my dad's the kind of guy that can never find a middle ground. if i go out with friends, i'm out too much. if i stay home, he wants to know why i'm just laying around the house. if i do a bit of both, it never seems to coincide with his schedule, and he bitches about that. I learned to ignore his whining long, long ago.

I did get desperate enough to cut it for a job. My hair at it's longest was just past my waist. And no, it wasn't a "hold on to my youth thing." I always liked my hair long and my friends and I always thought I looked better with it long.

Oh and that job I got after I cut my hair....lasted just shy of 2 months...they shutdown the midnight shift and before I could get my 60 days and get in the union, they laid me off. Not worth losing my hair

haven't cut my hair in 3 months... since it was all forcibly shaved away.

I'm with Derwood. I keep mine under 1/2 " long because I have better things to do with my time than style my hair. (I also think the look is OK on me)

I don't have to worry about what my motorcycle helmet does to it, or going swimming, hiking etc. I love it short.

But I say do what YOU want. Surely family will love and accept you with or without hair!

oscar0308 06-26-2003 07:30 AM

one word buddy...

FLOWBEE!!!!

if you want the military 15 min haircut, go out and buy an inexpensive buzzers with a #2 guard and you'll be good to go.

Reese 06-26-2003 07:53 AM

You are all missing the point, but it doesn't matter anymore.

I was just confused why the hell they decided they didn't want MY hair cut the way it has been cut for the last 15 fricking years. It doesn't make sense, If I were asked to change something for a friend, even if I liked it the way it was before, I'd still help him.

Derwood, I actually cared very little about my hair or what anyone thought of me. Thats why I didn't care to let them cut it when they said they didn't like it. It didn't bother me either way.

The only reason I say that I am never cutting my hair again is because It dawned on me that the one thing I didn't care about(my hair) ended up being the thing that made me question my 'I don't care what you think' Attutide.

i know all about parents being critical of hair. my father has always said, "long hair is a woman's glory," or some shit. until i was eleven i *never* got a haircut, but then i got gum stuck in it very close to my neck and had to have it cut out...so byebye hair. then i didn't really cut it again until my freshman year of highschool, and then not again until my junior year of college. i cut it *very* short this past october (senior year, after dyeing it blue)...i thought he was going to have a stroke. i feel for you.

KillerYoda 06-27-2003 04:09 AM

I got all pissed at my shaggy "emo look" the other day and shaved it all off. Now everyone thinks I'm a skinhead.
