Be the Radio DJ: 5 in 20
Normally this should go into the Tilted Music section, but I'd like to introduce a new feature for embedding music. We all like to make a mixtape, playlist or whatever. We opine how much the radio sucks or the DJ sucks, well here's a simple challenge: 5 songs in 20 minutes.
It's simple. Really simple, you've got 20 minutes of air to fill and 5 songs to use. Now, Skogafoss got pissed off the other day because it was a Rock Block weekend which meant they were playing 2 songs for every artist, if they miss counted and played 3, call up for some STP tickets. They said, "Coming up next, GnR..." As far as we knew it was going to be a rock block, but they only played 1 song from them, Civil War, now it was a 6 minute song, but clearly, Skogafoss was annoyed because they didn't play a second song. Again, 5 songs, 20 minutes. Mix and match them any way you see fit. All one artist, themes like the word Billy, Alphabet, Female Artists, genre, Billboard Top 5 of week 10 1988, whatever you decide. Announce what the criteria is, list the songs, and if you can find them, embed them via seeqpod using the new bbcode. There's no real way of knowing if you'll go over the 20 minute alotment use it as a guideline, but easily you can't have Stairway to Heaven, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, and Freebird in the same playlist. If you use iTunes or other mp3 player system you maybe able to get it to smartplaylist something for you. It's easy when it's an infinite time table, but the challenge will be to come in at 20 minutes or below with 5 songs. Add a little information about each of the songs if you can as any DJ would talk about the songs. Make it a front announce or a back announce mentioning your information. The key here is you decide how to roll it up, put it together and format it for those 20 minutes. I know we're going to have someone chime in that the talking takes up time and they'll go over the 20 minutes... yes, that is probably true, so try to keep the information/trivia short. The most important thing here is to enjoy sharing the music and trivia with others all in 20 minutes. Good luck! It's Icelandic 5 in 20, all these musicians are from Iceland. Sylvia Night - Congratulations Sylvia Night was a Eurovision 2006 hopeful. Little did people know that she was a comic playing a role as a fictional character ala Borat and Ali G. She had a fit when she didn't win, and many people did not know it was all an act at the time calling her a sore loser. The Sugar Cubes - Top Of The World The Sugar Cubes does an interesting cover of The Carpenters Top of the World. They were fronted by Bjork who went on to have a huge solo career. Bjork - Declare Independence Declare Independence was dedicated to Kosovo and Tibet during some a couple recent tour dates Bjork recently had. Kosovo declared independence days before her dedication. Tibet still is oppressed by the Chinese government. Lay Low - Please Don't Hate Me Lay Low is a young musician playing some inspired blues, folk, and country music. Please Don't Hate Me peaked at #2 on the Icelandic charts. Sigur Ros - Heima Heima is Sigur Ros' tour documentary. It is about them coming home back to Iceland and playing Reykjavík, Ásbyrgi, Ólafsvík, Ísafjörður, Djúpavík, Háls, Öxnadalur, Seyðisfjörður, and Snæfellsskála. Take a listen...

Very fun idea, but unfortunately the Icelandic songs themselves didn't do anything for me. I'll have to spend some time thinking about a contribution.
Does anyone know how to get music onto SeeqPod? Like, is there a free place I can upload a few songs, then point SeeqPod to find it?

the only way i know of is to have them on your own website. It unfortunately isn't as simple as photobucket or flickr.

I will definitely put a playlist together for this, but I have to think on it a bit first. The time constraint is a major hurdle, since it's going to (obviously) require an average song length of three minutes or less. EDIT - I see you've upped the time limit. That gives me ample breathing room. I'll have a playlist up this afternoon.

mostly because people don't have to register in order to use it.
The same test I did for seeqpod needed me to register to create one... Quote:
edit: I looked at your embed code, and it's not as simple.

Cyn, should have gone with the shorter version of Kiss, this one drags on too long. I had to look up Hindu Love Gods, 'cause I knew that I knew the lead singer's voice, but couldn't put a name to it.

there's actually a couple shorter ones that I had, but I guess in the shuffle I included the wrong one. It's actually quite longer than 20 minutes.... it was late and I was tired and frustrated on a project I was working on. I'll have to find the right sized ones and adjust it. I adjusted it but cannot find that regular version of Chaka Khan today...
yeah the Hindu Love Gods threw me for a complete loop too!

I tried to put together an Aussie song list (probably bands/singers most of you may not have heard of). Not really that easy - there was not a huge amount of things on seeqpod. Anyway here goes:

SeeqPod - Playable Search Hunters and Collectors - Throw your arms around me This band is not around any longer, but they are still regulars on radio playlists. I remember seeing them in 1991?? I think after their last studio album came out. May well be best known now as one of their songs is the AFL theme song. Powderfinger - Private Man Not really the song I would have chosen for this band, but my choices were limited - pretty stock standard modern guitar band. The Living End - Growing Up (Falling Down). This is the obligatory Aussie load guitar band Hoodoo Gurus - Come Anytime. Again, not the track I would've chosen (I have about 7 of their albums floating around the house). Paul Kelly - Dumb Things I had originally planned a 5 song Paul Kelly mix. Really wanted to play "Every Fucking City", but couldn't find it, but this one rates as one of my favourite of his songs. This guy is a song writing genius! I hope you enjoy! A few other songs for fun:
SeeqPod - Playable Search They might be Giants - New York City Madness - It must be love kinda soft spot for this song. This is the song we walked out of the church to after getting married. Tears for Fears - Mad World I almost went on a "Mad" themed list after adding this, but then I'd lose They might be Giants, so didn't INXS - Johnson's Aeroplane Not sure if this was ever released as a single, but it is off the "Swing" album, which was the first INXS album I ever heard. My brother bought it and it lived in my tape deck for a loonnnggg time. This is probably my favourite song from this album. Urge Overkill - Sister Havana I love this song - from the few seconds of silence (or nearly so) straight into an unforgettable riff. BTW - is there an easy way to figure out total play time?

Today's theme is --- GOOD MORNING
As it usually comes to pass, as roachboy so eloquently put it...

Good Morning Track Listing:
Total Runtime: 18:40 Keynote: I would like to state in closing that although the list compiled is very intact at present moment, and it comes together quite nicely by transitional genres, the last track would have been another had I had any luck in finding the song on seeqpod. So instead, I'll allow you to listen to what might've been the theme to the perfect morning's end. The New Pornographers are a collective. I have collected some of their other projects here. Sorry, it's only about 15 minutes...

Time to bump this thread. I started doing a "love" inspired list, but found myself looking for Cult songs, so without further ado, here is a selection of some of my favourite tracks from The Cult.
Sun King - this is off the 'Sonic Temple' album (but is a live version) Love Removal Machine - no idea who the band is playing this, but would have to be one of my favourite Cult songs. It ws on the 'Electric' album Edie - also from Sonic Temple. Hard for cover bands to do this as it needs a serious orchestra to be able to do it She Sells Sanctuary - I'm pretty sure this is from the 'Love' album (from memory). Too lazy to walk into the house to check. A fast paced number. Wild Flower - this is from the 'Electric' album as well. Hope you enjoy!

I had this playlist on hold for at least a couple months, but only today did I finally sign up for an imeem account, and did I actually complete my "new" playlist.
So here you are, a veritable story strung along by shifting tides of another song. The Water Bearer http://www.imeem.com/people/sYouANw/playlist/tk0z5Gqk/the_water_bearer_music_playlist/ Track Listing:
Total Runtime: 21:15 min.
