HAPPY MARCH 8TH!!!

snowy 03-08-2008 08:19 AM

Thank you!

For those of you who don't know, today is International Women's Day.

The last picture fills me with homesickness; it is taken in the Skagit Valley, I'm sure of it.

Grasshopper Green 03-08-2008 08:19 AM

Ooh...pretty :)

Is there something particularly special about March 8th (except that it is my hubby's birthday)?

Edit: Nevermind...I just saw snowy's post. I love that last picture too...tulips are my favorite flower.

Shaindra 03-08-2008 08:27 AM

Ooooh, flowers!

JustJess 03-08-2008 08:46 AM

Aww, thanks, Logan!
I love flowers!!! I especially like that these will never die. :D

ngdawg 03-08-2008 08:51 AM

Instead of flowers, could I have some chocolate? Flowers make me sneeze.

Beautiful. Nice to look at rather than ugly discolored 10 day old snow mounds... Wisconsin sucks at the moment.

Thanks! Happy Women's Day!

hunnychile 03-08-2008 09:50 AM

What a wonderful surprise!

Simple but beautiful and just in time to help remember that Spring is on its way - even when there's 12 inches of snow on the ground and more to come!

The_Jazz 03-08-2008 10:05 AM

Suck-up.

:)

And enjoy your day, ladies.

girldetective 03-08-2008 12:25 PM

Thank you LoganSnake. It was raining yesterday and waking up to these and a little more sun is very cheering. To all my fellow girl rebels - you rock!

Baraka_Guru 03-08-2008 12:35 PM

Happy Day

No other group in America has so had their identity socialized out of existence as have black women... When black people are talked about the focus tends to be on black men; and when women are talked about the focus tends to be on white women.

Halx 03-08-2008 02:01 PM

I donate my penis to you all.

Fly 03-09-2008 07:03 AM

this your song Halx?

I woke up this morning with a bad hangover
And my penis was missing again.
This happens all the time.
It's detachable.

[background singing begins: "detachable penis" over and over]

This comes in handy a lot of the time.
I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble,
or I can rent it out, when I don't need it.
But now and then I go to a party, get drunk,
and the next morning I can't for the life of me
remember what I did with it.
First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it.
So I called up the place where the party was,
they hadn't seen it either.
I asked them to check the medicine cabinet
'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes
But not this time.
So I told them if it pops up to let me know.
I called a few people who were at the party,
but they were no help either.
I was starting to get desperate.
I really don't like being without my penis for too long.
It makes me feel like less of a man,
and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak.
After a few hours of searching the house,
and calling everyone I could think of,
I was starting to get very depressed,
so I went to the Kiev, and ate breakfast.
Then, as I walked down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place,
where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street,
I saw my penis lying on a blanket
next to a broken toaster oven.
Some guy was selling it.
I had to buy it off him.
He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen.
I took it home, washed it off,
and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete.
People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached,
but I don't know.
Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass,
I like having a detachable penis.

[background voices continue to sing "detachable penis" for
a while, then out]

Thank you. :)

I know it being Int. Women's Day is the reason behind this thread, but why is it that society thinks only women love flowers?

this is my favorite flower:

ring 03-09-2008 09:42 AM

ohhh shivers shivers shivers...
bless you bless you bless you for posting that...

of course women are not the only ones who go orgasmic over flowers.

alicat 03-09-2008 08:24 PM

Thank you Logan! I love snow but we've had enough this year in Michigan. I can't wait for spring and flowers/gardening.

Sion: That Orchid is gorgeous and remind's me that I need to watch "Adaptation". Men that like flowers=awesome!

jewels 03-10-2008 06:16 AM

Gorgeous! Thank you. :)

genuinegirly 03-14-2008 05:31 PM

Wow, there's a day for women? Not just Mother's Day? This is something I have to remember.

The ghost orchid is spectacular.
Crazy that it lives in florida swamps - seems like one of the most dreary habitat to come across a flower so breath-taking. Makes sense that it's epiphytic and has no leaves - they wouldn't see much light anyway.

For your reference, From the Flora of North America http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.as...n_id=242101563:
Quote:

1. Dendrophylax lindenii (Lindley)

Plants appressed to substrate, seemingly leafless. Roots gray-green, fascicled, to 50 cm × 3–5 mm. Stems inconspicuous, obscured by roots. Leaves bractlike, inconspicuous, often absent. Inflorescences: peduncles arcuate-ascending, 6–25 cm; bracts tubular, sheathing, 5–7 mm; racemes 1–10-flowered; floral bracts lanceolate, 4 × 3 mm, scarious. Flowers opening in succession, usually 1–2 at a time, nocturnally fragrant; sepals and petals spreading, white to creamy green or pale yellow-brown; dorsal sepal lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, 20–21 × 5–6 mm, apex acute; lateral sepals slightly oblique, lanceolate to narrowly lanceolate, 25–30 × 4–5.5 mm, apex obtuse to acute; petals falcate-recurved, narrowly lanceolate, 22–27 × 4–4.5 mm, apex acute to acuminate; lip white, basally concave, 3-lobed, middle lobe with subquadrangular isthmus, terminating in 2 arching, twisting, caudate lobes 45–70 mm, apiculate, lateral lobes spreading, 18–25 mm wide when spread, apex obtuse to acute; callus with narrow, denticulate keel; spur arcuate, slender, 11–17 cm; column stout, with 2 triangular wings projecting toward lip, 2–3 × 5 mm diam.; pollinia orange; pedicellate ovary slender, 30 × 1.5 mm.
