Something tells me this isn't the first request to stop smoking in the "flat."

BERLIN (Reuters) - A virulent anti-smoker in Germany was so angry when his girlfriend lit up he emptied a fire extinguisher to put out the cigarette, caking her and their apartment in powder.

"My colleagues said it looked like a bomb had gone off in there," said a spokesman for police in the western city of Bielefeld. "He managed to put the cigarette out though."

After the woman ignored his request not to smoke, the 42-year-old sprayed the contents of the extinguisher all around the flat shouting abuse, police said.

"He said he wasn't bothered by the damage it caused," the spokesman said. "And that he's through with his girlfriend."

And I'd be willing bet she's done with him too.

Huh, my neighbors have that wooden sign on the wall above the extinguisher, "If we see you smoking, we will assume you are on fire and take appropriate action."

I don't smoke, so never had the opportunity to test their conviction.

One of my teammates got expelled from university for firing an extinguisher in a dorm room for the exact same reason. The excuse: While smoking in the rooms is not allowed, the lung damage caused by inhaling extinguisher fumes poses a more immediate and serious health risk than second hand smoke.

In my opinion both are total douchebags, the boyfriend and the girlfriend.

They were meant for each other.

I saw the title and thought this was genuinegirly reacting the same way she did about the cell phone in the library.

ive never smoked..so it annoys me when i walk into a restaurant and im the only one not smoking.. especiallyin the non smoking section!

I smoke and I enjoy it but never, and I mean never would I be so disrespectful as to make someone else share my habit. I don't even smoke in front of businesses because I think it's sad that people have to walk around my cloud. I don't smoke at parks or after school events for my children either as I think this demonstrates bad habits to others. When I'm at the beach I go to the parking lot if I have to light up before I leave. I go so out of my way I should just quit!
