Shooting Spree?

WTF is going on up north? Seems like every day I turn on the new they announce another shooting. This morning I hear a young lady shot two class mates in a Baton Rouge, La tech school.

Yesterday or the day before it was some guy taking out some folks a city council meeting.

Okay, now I see the brother of the man who shot up the council meeting defending his brother's decision to shoot a bunch of people.

Either I'm nutz, which is completely possible, or he is.

If it bleeds, it leads.
The news media gives these types of whack jobs so much attention, it spurs other whack jobs to imitate them. They all want their 15 minutes of fame. I have a theory that if they refuse to air anything at all about the shooters, we'd see a lot less of them.

I don't think it helps your position much when you do this in every single fucking thread where someone mentions guns. Next time, I'm warning you for trolling.

For the record I did not start this thread in attempt to create a debate on gun control. Simply turned on the news this morning and thought gezz, WTF? And was interested in what others thought might be happening. I kind of expected some thoughts regarding copy cats and news reports, the econ. in the shitter, or even the "Pats lost now I'm pissed" theories.

For some I guess anytime you mention gun violence you're gonna get people on either side excited. In future I'll make my OP'ed threads clearer.

Personally, for the record, I'm neither pro nor anti gun law. The issue's simply too complicated to simply jump into either camp.

I'm sure someone in the media will contact some psychologist somewhere who will say it all has to do with the extra cold winter (This has been the coldest January the planet has seen in several years) and lack of sunlight with all the snow fall and overcast skies.

Its known that it can lead to depression of course, but they won't have any base line to back it up with and it will be nothing but pyschobabble.

It could just be like the shark attack summer of 2001, where there are less incidents but more widely reported so people assume there is a big problem.

Thanks for the clarification.

Obviously there's an under current here I'm unfamiliar with.

I try to be silent about some things, or at least go back and edit my posts when I think I crossed the line.

I remember the day when it seemed there was a prerequisite of being a postal employee to go on a shooting spree. Going Postal anyone? It does seem more and more common, unfortunately.

I apologize, I overreacted due to a number of factors, many of which I should not allow to affect my actions as a moderator (I had just finished an argument with my boss consisting of him calling me an idiot rather than admitting to a simple mistake.) In the future, I'll avoid knee-jerk reactions.

And if anyone thinks another member, including a moderator, is out of line, it's safe to tell staff instead of just ignoring the issue.
