Sports Fans Beware

Apparently, a considerable rise in heart attacks and your favorite team playing in a highly competitive tournament have been positively linked by a German researchers. The details, which at times seem darkly humorous, are in the article provided below.

Personally, sports in general have not had that much of a sway over me; although I do watch the national team sometimes ( but seeing as how they're mediocre at best, losses and wins don't often get my blood boiling), and lately I've been watching my schools men's basketball team play. Overall, i don't think any such news would deter me from cheering as loud or anything of the sort. My guess is that it mostly affects rabid fans, i.e. not me. So, I’m not at all perturbed by these finding.

What do you guys(gals) think? What type of sports fan do you consider yourself to be, and does this article affect that at all?

Listening to the spouse watch the NFL playoffs, I was pretty sure he'd be a statistic. I plan on wearing my headphones most of the day tomorrow.....

I can certainly see where the validity is to these studies/statistics. I myself get a bit worked up watching NASCAR, being known to yell at the drivers I can't stand to "GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!!" I have no idea why, it's not like they ever listen to me.

I kid, I kid...

But I agree with the study, I've gotten myself quite worked up over sporting events, to the point I could feel my pulse RACING when the game gets tight.

I could easily see the mixture of a sedentary lifestyle, poor heart, and sports induced stress producing dangerous things.

Being an Ohio State, Mets, and Jets fan, I haven't got the FAINTEST idea how I'm not 6 feet under by now. Thank God most of my outbursts are at home, or I'd be the "don't taze me" guy.

Wow, I knew being a spectator of professional sports caused psychological damage, but it's physiological, too?

Ooh, this is bad.

This is where I say it's all just bread and circuses, but I guess it's worse than that now.

Well with the way the Leafs are playing it wouldn't surprise me if I stroked out while watching one of their games, I've always said they'd be the death of me.

Long term Indians fan... yeah..

I think I've grown immune to the heart related stress that I receive on a almost yearly basis.

It makes for tough skin ;)

Red Sox fan.
Guess I should be dead.
Thankfully, they are winning now... might live a few more years...
:)

I'm f***ed.

Gosh, I wonder how many incidents happened in the NE area overnight...

I should have died during every single MLB playoff game.

At least during the Worlds Series I got to rest. I was being realistic. I knew there was no way the Rockies could have beat Boston.

And can I just say... Fuck the Patriots. Don't mess with a Manning.

I wonder how Americans would fare on a study of this sorts, given their heightened predilection for hot dogs and beers and all.

Infinite_Loser 02-04-2008 12:53 PM

The only time I've ever become upset over a football game is the 2002 Fiesta Bowl when (The INCOMPETENT MORON) named Terry Porter decided to throw an ungodly late phantom pass interference flag against Miami <_<

...But other than that, sports don't really affect me. However, I do know people who contemplate suicide (Seriously) when their team loses. That I don't really understand.

This year I stuffed my face with healthful foods while watching the Superbowl. I had grilled salmon, rice, and asparagus with my Sam Adams lager beer. Hot dogs are for baseball ...well actually I ate one Sunday afternoon watching my boy play basketball. And I wasn't drinking Sam Adams because I like the Patriots, I really didn't care which team won.

I know Cubs fans who lost sleep over the White Sox world series in 2005.

One even lost his job because he was so angry about it, it was affecting his work.
