I don't see the reason behind flipping out over popularity contests. If you're liked, you know it already. If not, you probably do as well. Might as well have a poll about it.

That's what I said in my post. I'm for it and I don't understand people who object to popularity contests. Thought it was clear enough.

So... uh... as far as I figure: a popularity contest is gratuitous masturbation whereas this kind of thing highlights the history of user action on the board.

Where's the confusion?

I don't see anybody being against it, unless I'm missing something.

EDIT: Some are in fact against it. Oh well, you can always ignore them and proceed with the idea. Majority likes it. Majority wins.

Complain? It seems more like dissection. What mechanisms will be used as criteria? Who will be choosing them? Seeing as we do have a wonderfully eclectic group of moderators, will they each have their own criteria?

These don't seem like unreasonable questions to me.

So do I. There are a number of posts that catch my eye on this board for embodying the spirit of TFP, and it's great to finally have an opportunity to see some of these things recognized.

Plus, it gives every one of us incentive to be not just a contributor--but a GREAT contributor.

Good start.

It will seem strange at first but you will get the hang of it.

Now try it only at the start of sentences, like

How now brown cow.
