No, I mean what about if I nominate people who might not want to have the "I am an Honor Student at TFP Jr. High" sticker posted on their avatar/bumper, and they get embarrassed, annoyed, etc?

I remember when we did the "Hotseat" threads (individually), it seemed to be common practice to send a PM asking the person ahead of time if they would mind being put on the pedestal. Maybe we could do something similar in this case.

Ew, I remember that line, and it was beets she was cooking.

We need a catagory "most references to parents/grandparents"

TFP is cool. TFP is not Jr High. C'mon Abaya.

Hey, I never said TFP wasn't cool. But the idea does remind me of those stickers on some parents' cars, y'know?... I was quoting what they usually say, which is "at so-and-so jr high"... didn't mean to say that TFP is jr. high, Hal. But I guess I am not a big fan of the idea, anyway.

tecoyah 01-15-2008 04:09 PM

Personally, I see no harm at all in this idea, and for a few in will be quite nice. In the long run it might actually improve the place too....so lets just do this thing, and be cool about it.

Halx 01-15-2008 04:12 PM

Ok, Donor.

LoganSnake 01-15-2008 04:36 PM

I think some people are taking this a little too seriously.

Psycho Dad 01-15-2008 04:42 PM

Did I miss the part where it was explained that these were going to be cash prizes, vacations and new cars? Because I don't see why anyone should be overly excited or pissed off to any degree. If getting one of these awards is the high point of your day, you need to get out more often. If missing out on one because you don't feel loved by other tfpers is the lowpoint of your day, you need to get out more often.

I'm just sayin'...

Why hasn't anyone nominated me?

pig 01-15-2008 05:22 PM

I'm wondering if once a month isn't too frequent, if this idea is going to go down. I'm all for trying new things, and so I say "Why not?" If it doesn't have the desired affect, it can be shut down. Like the panty-swapping club a few years back. I personally think once a month might be too frequent, but once again time will tell, and other standby phrases.

I nominate Crompsin for Best "Newish TFPer". His posts had made tfp alot more interesting as of late (or at least since mid summer 2007) and have helped some of us lesser-posters enjoy fresh responses that are pretty damn funny and always "true" to his character! And he doesn't thread jack!!! Yeah!

A Strict Non Winner

Hello,

First, I'm new to this forum and I'm not sure what the difference is between the "Post Reply" option and "Quick Reply". I think that "Quick Reply" might mean I have to type hurriedly, so I have gone with "Post Reply" for this post.

Anyway, I find this notion of awards interesting. Coincidentally, I had a discussion with coworkers just yesterday about awards and I have come to the conclusion that I am one of the few people on earth who has never won a thing. Back when I was a kid our local city recreation department had a day of athletic competition. It was the regular stuff, 100 yard dash, baseball throw, high jump. They had a lot of categories so every kid had about a 95% chance of winning one competition or another. There was a category for kids under four feet tall. One category for kids with a stigmatism. There was a category for kids who stuttered. Etc. I finished last or near it in every competition. Then I went and complained about the refereeing and lost the award that traditionally goes to the biggest loser, the Sportsmanship Award.
I graduated from high school 351st in a class of 359. (I tell people I gradutated in the top 98% in my class.) So I never won anything for my academic abilities. In my youth I never won a teacher-sanctioned foursquare or dodgeball competition, never a classroom spelling bee.
As an adult I've never won anything either. No silly bowling or golf trophy, trophies usually won because your teammates are good. I'm awardless at my place of employment. Never an "employee of the month" or an attendance award. My coworkers are amazed that I have never won a single award or honor for anything, that I'm lifetime-0. True though.
Certainly there has been someone else on the planet who has never received any honor of any kind. I've never found him however. He probably died at an early age.

Your Good Buddy,
Galileo T. Smith

xepherys 01-17-2008 12:27 PM

Oooo, if we can through mini-guns on the prize list, I recommend the General Electric GAU-17

Sadly, you most likely won't win anything here, either. But at least that will maintain some consistency in your life. You can take solace in that, I'm sure.

Awwwww!! :shy: Thanks, Fred! Glad to know that someone appreciated my cynical sense of humor... ;) Well, I'm just curious to see how this whole thing turns out... if it's all just for fun, and the awards are not really serious (e.g. they don't reflect actual character judgments), then I guess I won't have a problem with it.

Strange Famous 05-31-2008 02:39 PM

Im funny about things like that.

At my work they have a staff xmas meal (for everyone), and then another xmas meal for the managers - and I refuse to go to the managers (although I get invited) one simply because it is exclusive. I basically wont attend anything that everyone isnt invited too. I wont even go to the industry conference with the company because they only ever buy 10 tickets, and they take the board and then they try and share out the rest of them in turn each year amongst the mid and junior managers, but I refuse to take anything like that at the expense of someone else (although I have been a couple of times when suppliers have taken me)

I suppose I have an obtuse personality.
