WK and RJ.... love at first sight????

I got a 8 gig Sony Walkman! Perfect for public transit while going to university. Only problem is I broke my logitech noise canceling headphones 2 days ago :(

noodle 12-27-2007 04:50 AM

my SO and I got each other a king-sized, 11" TrueForm mattress about three weeks before Christmas.
Waking up Christmas morning rested with no backache was the best damn present anyone could ask for.
My family is doing Christmas in January, so I still may end up with something else.

Sultana 12-27-2007 06:17 AM

I was very surprised to receive a number of gifts, all great:

Red Sleeping Bag (yay!!)
set of dishes for 4 (now I have new service for 8, tossed the old ones)
a set of about 20 screwdrivers (??)
a food processor (see what happens when you borrow a friend's just once?)
cash from the mom
a lot of candles from different people
and a variety of small but sweet things. It was much more than I expected, and it was much appreciated.

I wouldn't try to wind it until it's been taken to watchmaker to be cleaned and oiled. Use is what keeps a watch in top running condition. That and a cleaning and oiling every couple of years. Inactivity, for that length of time, will have corroded some of the mechanism.

New snowboard binding and boots from the brother
A few bouts of drunken stupor from the friends

BEST gift...I got hubby back from his 21-month military Afghanistan tour http://www.kolobok.us/smiles/artists.../JC_boogie.gif

Most FRUTSTRATING gift...hubby bought the family a new HDtelevision and HD-dvd player system. We now have 4 remote controls instead of 1. All different brands, which is great because otherwise I cannot tell which danged remote goes with which danged piece of equipment. The "ENTER" button does something totally different on each one. I gave up trying to watch a dvd today after twenty minutes of pushing buttons. My teenager can figure this out, so I'm feeling a little old and stupid today. Give me an old fashioned tv with only three buttons (power/channel/volume) any day.

The worst - 7 different boxes of chocolate from my mother (who knows that Im just starting a diet)

That sounds so odd!

Cos no North American "Soccer" fan who watches "EPL" is going to have even heard of Tranmere, let alone Tranmere Rovers.

And yet you say soccer shirt!

Ive never known a real football fan - which you must be - to actually use the word "soccer"!

I don't have one, but the Logitech Harmony remotes are supposed to kick absolute ass. If I had a more complicated system, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

We picked one up recently upon purchasing our Pioneer Elite plasma. It works pretty well, but the initial programming and setup for those who are not technologically inclined can be somewhat of a feat in itself. They're also not cheap. Ours ran just over $100.

Baraka_Guru 12-29-2007 09:09 AM

We received the means to get ourselves a nice Nintento Wii.

....now it's just a matter of time before we have the means to find one.

Whoa, sweet. Can you post a pic of that hookah? I tried for a little bit to search for one but couldn't find one...unless you actually meant bong...

My brother-in-law has a hookah that looks like the pic below. I think he bought it at a smoke/pipe shop. Unfortunately, no hookah for us over Christmas because his hose was cracked. :( I really like the strawberry flavored. He's not into the good stuff...or else he didn't share that. ;)

I didn't really want anything for Christmas. My parents bought us camping stuff back in November when they visited. My in-laws got me a new painting easel that is very awesome. :) JJ and I put some money together and traded in the PS2 for an XBox 360. Then, of course, I got the normal teacher gifts (gift certificates, lotions, candles, coffee mugs, and handmade cards)

World's King 12-29-2007 04:29 PM

Lotion is a normal teacher gift? From a student?

Mine is a 4-hoser with a rotating base. One of the valves broke off though, so temporarily it's a 3-hoser. I'll post a pic of it later. It's damn sweet as hell, and it was free!

Strawberry is good and all, but you should try either lemon or mandorin. They are by far the best flavors.

C'mon, Esoteric! Show me your hookah.

It's more a bong with a small hookah hose. That's why I typed it as 'hookah' because it's not really a hookah per se. It really actually doesn't resemble a traditional hookah at all.

http://www.zongbongs.co.uk/assets/pr...phqw9oxrzd.jpg

It's extremely similar to this, but instead there's a hole above his head and a tube coming from the back of the bong. The bowl piece is larger and he's holding it.

ironpham 12-31-2007 09:02 AM

That's pretty sick looking. So is it actually made for shisha or more for the ganj? Or, I guess the more important question is, which one are you using it for?

Esoteric 12-31-2007 09:06 AM

Ganja, it came with a little baggie of tobacco but I discarded it.

as a lot of you know, i went thru a bitter divorce, where i lost my daughter for quite a few years... she has since moved to tennessee and married, graced me with a beautiful grad daughter... i was invited to her wedding and had a wonderful time with my new wife...

each year i would burn her 50 some odd cd's all tagged and labeled... it got to the point where i forgot what i burned for her in the past so this year i loaded up a 1 TB external drive with my entire music catalogue (almost 20K albums), winamp pro cracked with the volume logic plugin also cracked (if you don't have volume logic you don't know what yer missing) and a set of philips quad 160 watt speakers with built-in subs, some 400 movies all set to burn to dvd, as well as my cook book...

to hear her excitement when she called was the best Christmas present i could ever have

how do i top that next year???

Wow! That's great! I got all warm and fuzzy inside just reading that. What an incredibly thoughtful gift :-)

Are you looking to adopt another daughter, perhaps? ;)

LoganSnake 12-31-2007 07:17 PM

A beautiful new Tetsubin teapot with a one year subscription to a tea of the month club.

alicat 01-01-2008 08:21 PM

For the 1st time in 4 yrs., $750 bonus from hubbies work and then $600 from his parents. Both gratefully accepted to compensate for what we spent on X-mas gifts and hosting X-mas for the first time in 18 years in our own home instead of a rental. That was probably the best gift even though it happened a few months ago, our parent's helping us to finally become homeowners!

As far as actual physical gifts, hubby gave me novel's from my favorite "check out for a few hours" author's (Stephen King, Dean Koontz, John Saul). Even better, he said he will start wearing his wedding ring! Might not seem like a big deal, but he's worked with some pretty high-tech electrical building/wiring for quite alot of years, which made jewelry dangerous to wear. He's moved into a supervisor position, which means he isin't as hands on and his hands aren't in danger like they used to be.

The rest of the best was: a good quality apron with boob coverage, a digital kitchen scale, a digital oven thermometer and a Kuhn sauce pan. My retro stainless 4 slice toaster should be here anyday now. Can anyone guess what my favorite hobby is?!

Oh, I also recieved a copy of "Mensa Absolutely Nasty Sudoku: Level 4", which is currently kicking my ass and humbling me big time.
