First Snow...Already
OK, so today we got the firsts hints of snow.
It is a little early in the season for snow but it is really just a very light snow that is almost impossible to see in the air. It is definately not sticking on the ground. Most people probably did not notice it yet. Winter is coming.

We got 4-5 inches on Tuesday.
The stuff was super wet & heavy, took down a lot of trees (they all had leaves still!), pulled the telephone wires out of my house. Great times. Also about 12000 ppl in my city had no power over night when it happened, glad I got spared there. The shit sucks.

Send it my way please. The tops of the mountains are covered, but the lower half is barren. I've been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather (especially since I had to move two different times in the past few weeks), but with Thanksgiving coming around it would be nice to get more than a dusting, or just a few inches for that matter.

Despite last winter (my first in CO) being the worst in 25 years or so, I'm looking foreward to more snow. We had about 4 inches back on Oct 19th, but it was gone in a flash with a warm spell shortly thereafter. Being from Southern California, snow is still something of a novelty to us.
We just bought a nice all-metal snowshovel, and a Dodge Durango 4x4, so bring it on!

We haven't had snow around here yet, but if the rumors are true, this winter we will see tons and tons of snow (Chicago). I am NOT looking forward to it.

We haven't seen snow yet. That would be awfully early. Usually it doesn't snow until January or so. It's really odd to get a white Christmas. But it's a La Nina year, and the last La Nina year we had out here, we had a white Christmas.
So we'll see. I have no doubt we'll get an early snow this year, compared to normal or El Nino winters.

First snow? Had our first snow here around Thanksgiving, it melted a couple of days later, then a week and a half ago we got another blast that's going to be sticking around for the winter.
Here's what it looks like off my balcony:

We had snow here in September, but this IS Iceland, after all.

I'm dying to see some snow over here...As long as the mountains get 40+ inches by December, I'm happy. I prefer snow over rain in Seattle...god dammit...I hate the rain.

Yep, Thanksgiving (turkey day) is celebrated on the second Monday of October every year. This year it was 32 Celsius, with a humidex of 37. Very far from the crisp autumnal days that you would want for the event! Right now it is snowing lightly, as I look out over the parking lot, but the flakes are melting as they touch the ground. Still, it gets me in the mood to play hockey tonight. Last edited by Leto; 11-08-2007 at 12:42 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I miss having snow terribly. When I live in St. Louis, I used to look forward to snow all year and then do everything in it. It was like having a toy drop from the sky and getting to play with it and exist in it all day, like if it were to have rained legos or something. And it was gorgeous. Everything was clean and white, and it helped to create a magnificent contrast between the warm indoors and the cold outdoors. It's only snowed in San Jose once in my life (that I'm aware of), and it melted when it hit the ground. I'll have to drive East to get some snow this year. |

i love snow..I love winter, I love the cold. It's why i live in New Hampshire, though the last few winters have been a bit lean on snowfall. The peacefulness of a snwofall is really nice and relaxing. Much better than rain, can't make rainballs or rainforts with the kids. Sledding and skiing down a mountain is more difficult without snow too
Don't get me wrong, i like summer and going to the beach, but some days are just too hot for me. Winter is my season.

I'm hoping for either a LOT of snow (a lot for my area at least) or NONE by the time thanksgiving comes around.
I want enough snow so that tracking deer is easier, but if I can't have enough for that I want none!

It's coming down here. Started last night while I was finishing moving. I love the first real snow. Watching all the procrastinators who forgot to get their snowtires on their car slide all over the place on their way to work.

You're right, I-25 was pretty amusing. Watched three cars in a row, including a Jeep, lock up their brakes and consequently slide off into the median.
I didn't have a problem, but that's because I know how to drive in Colorado weather.

We just got our first dump last night. It is the end of November. Hell, I remember as a kid having to bundle up in snow suits to go trick or treating.

Last night all the news stations were in full panic mode breathlessly predicting the storm of the century. And here we are today with a few centimeters of icy groundcover.
Let the season of wolf-crying begin.

Ya, we always get that Chicken Little weather reporting Fresnelly. there wasn't much more than a half a cm on the ground this morning, but there was a nice glaze of ice on the windshield from all the rain yesterday which froze overnight.
I was scraping the windshield, and my elbow hit the antenna, which wipped back and smacked me over the bridge of my nose. Hurt like a son of a bitch! and wouldn't stop bleeding. Now I have to 'splain to my work mates at every turn what happened. |
