First Snow...Already

OK, so today we got the firsts hints of snow.

It is a little early in the season for snow but it is really just a very light snow that is almost impossible to see in the air.
It is definately not sticking on the ground.

Most people probably did not notice it yet.

Winter is coming.

Destrox 11-08-2007 07:38 AM

We got 4-5 inches on Tuesday.

The stuff was super wet & heavy, took down a lot of trees (they all had leaves still!), pulled the telephone wires out of my house.

Great times.

Also about 12000 ppl in my city had no power over night when it happened, glad I got spared there.

The shit sucks.

kurty[B] 11-08-2007 08:41 AM

Send it my way please. The tops of the mountains are covered, but the lower half is barren. I've been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather (especially since I had to move two different times in the past few weeks), but with Thanksgiving coming around it would be nice to get more than a dusting, or just a few inches for that matter.

LoganSnake 11-08-2007 08:53 AM

God, I fucking hate snow.

Brother! I'm with you there:thumbsup: If I could move to a nice warm place I'd do it in a minute. That's what I get for getting hitched to a NH girl.

Mister Coaster 11-08-2007 09:27 AM

Despite last winter (my first in CO) being the worst in 25 years or so, I'm looking foreward to more snow. We had about 4 inches back on Oct 19th, but it was gone in a flash with a warm spell shortly thereafter. Being from Southern California, snow is still something of a novelty to us.

We just bought a nice all-metal snowshovel, and a Dodge Durango 4x4, so bring it on!

Infinite_Loser 11-08-2007 09:45 AM

Snow? What is this snow you speak of? It never snows here (Thankfully!) :D

telekinetic 11-08-2007 09:52 AM

Yeah....it is still 88° here. I haven't even found my sweaters yet hehe

Esoteric 11-08-2007 09:55 AM

Florida doesn't get snow. :| It was kind of cold this morning on the way to work, but it's warmed up since then.

LoganSnake 11-08-2007 10:11 AM

We haven't had snow around here yet, but if the rumors are true, this winter we will see tons and tons of snow (Chicago). I am NOT looking forward to it.

snowy 11-08-2007 10:23 AM

We haven't seen snow yet. That would be awfully early. Usually it doesn't snow until January or so. It's really odd to get a white Christmas. But it's a La Nina year, and the last La Nina year we had out here, we had a white Christmas.

So we'll see. I have no doubt we'll get an early snow this year, compared to normal or El Nino winters.

silent_jay 11-08-2007 10:30 AM

First snow? Had our first snow here around Thanksgiving, it melted a couple of days later, then a week and a half ago we got another blast that's going to be sticking around for the winter.
Here's what it looks like off my balcony:

/scratches head... remembers that Canada's Thanksgiving is a lot earlier than their American neighbors'. :)

We had snow here in September, but this IS Iceland, after all. :)

Dude, what's the deal on those boarded up houses across the way?

KellyC 11-08-2007 12:02 PM

I'm dying to see some snow over here...As long as the mountains get 40+ inches by December, I'm happy. I prefer snow over rain in Seattle...god dammit...I hate the rain.

Yep, Thanksgiving (turkey day) is celebrated on the second Monday of October every year. This year it was 32 Celsius, with a humidex of 37. Very far from the crisp autumnal days that you would want for the event!

Right now it is snowing lightly, as I look out over the parking lot, but the flakes are melting as they touch the ground. Still, it gets me in the mood to play hockey tonight.

I miss having snow terribly. When I live in St. Louis, I used to look forward to snow all year and then do everything in it. It was like having a toy drop from the sky and getting to play with it and exist in it all day, like if it were to have rained legos or something. And it was gorgeous. Everything was clean and white, and it helped to create a magnificent contrast between the warm indoors and the cold outdoors. It's only snowed in San Jose once in my life (that I'm aware of), and it melted when it hit the ground. I'll have to drive East to get some snow this year.

Wear black velvet.
Watch the flakes land on you.

Hot soup.

Rub cold toes.

Hibernate.

Destrox 11-08-2007 02:44 PM

If anyone wants snow, leave an address and I'll USPS it to you.*

*Cannot promise condition of said item once given to USPS.

casual user 11-08-2007 06:48 PM

we havn't gotten any snow here yet. it's been a very warm fall, actually. i've seen it snow in october and i doubt this one got even cold enough for it to snow except for maybe during the night

willynilly 11-09-2007 08:45 PM

Went to Arapahoe Basin today. First turns on the snowboard I bought this summer. Good times, but I have much more experience skiing so snowboarding can be a little frustrating. Especially with no oxygen at 10,000+ feet.

bubbaspike 11-10-2007 07:44 PM

I hate this time of year in Nebraska.
I build houses, and in the morning I wear
longjohns, three shirts and a coat.
by the end of the day I'm shirtless
and sweating my ass off.

SaltPork 11-11-2007 08:28 PM

i love snow..I love winter, I love the cold. It's why i live in New Hampshire, though the last few winters have been a bit lean on snowfall. The peacefulness of a snwofall is really nice and relaxing. Much better than rain, can't make rainballs or rainforts with the kids. Sledding and skiing down a mountain is more difficult without snow too :)

Don't get me wrong, i like summer and going to the beach, but some days are just too hot for me. Winter is my season.

Menoman 11-11-2007 10:16 PM

I'm hoping for either a LOT of snow (a lot for my area at least) or NONE by the time thanksgiving comes around.

I want enough snow so that tracking deer is easier, but if I can't have enough for that I want none!

Sticky 11-21-2007 06:09 AM

Second day in a row.
Yesterday we woke up with snow on the ground. About 90% of it was gone by the end of the day.
Today huge flakes are falling.

kurty[B] 11-21-2007 09:24 AM

It's coming down here. Started last night while I was finishing moving. I love the first real snow. Watching all the procrastinators who forgot to get their snowtires on their car slide all over the place on their way to work.

Jinn 11-21-2007 09:39 AM

You're right, I-25 was pretty amusing. Watched three cars in a row, including a Jeep, lock up their brakes and consequently slide off into the median.

I didn't have a problem, but that's because I know how to drive in Colorado weather. :)

casual user 11-21-2007 02:06 PM

we got cold ass rain yesterday and that's it. it sucked horribly

ObieX 11-21-2007 04:33 PM

Its been pretty warm here in northern new jersey. Sitting at 51 degrees and its been dark for a few hours now. WTB more global warming.

Sticky 11-22-2007 08:09 AM

3rd day in a row.
Today it was ice pellets which ends up equaling heavy icy snow on the ground.

Martian 11-22-2007 08:12 AM

We just got our first dump last night. It is the end of November. Hell, I remember as a kid having to bundle up in snow suits to go trick or treating.

optik_nerve 11-22-2007 08:29 AM

Pretty warm here. And has been. I just walked out in boardshorts and a tanktop to have a cigarette.

I wish it did snow though... but it's very unlikely for Orlando. I miss the northern states for that reason.

Jenna 11-22-2007 09:38 AM

Just got our first significant snowfall last night. We've got a good 2 inches.

Me too! It's too bad. We barely see snow now too...

fresnelly 11-22-2007 10:37 AM

Last night all the news stations were in full panic mode breathlessly predicting the storm of the century. And here we are today with a few centimeters of icy groundcover.

Let the season of wolf-crying begin.

And a happy "F you, too" :) from the guy who drove from 8500' down to 5000" with marginal tires, while my new studded snow tires are sitting in the driveway as this weekends project.

Leto 11-22-2007 10:50 AM

Ya, we always get that Chicken Little weather reporting Fresnelly. there wasn't much more than a half a cm on the ground this morning, but there was a nice glaze of ice on the windshield from all the rain yesterday which froze overnight.

I was scraping the windshield, and my elbow hit the antenna, which wipped back and smacked me over the bridge of my nose. Hurt like a son of a bitch! and wouldn't stop bleeding. Now I have to 'splain to my work mates at every turn what happened.

KellyC 12-01-2007 03:01 PM

Awww yeahhh, we're getting a couple inches over here. The neighbors' kids are so excited. And so are we. Awesome!

Here either thankfully. Of course we don't really get winter here either. Its December and I had the t-tops off the Corvette today.

casual user 12-02-2007 06:14 PM

yeah, we got the first snow here today
