6500 US troops arrive in Sydney.
What a sight this morning coming through the "heads".
Welcome to our shores. LINK TO STORY 6500 US troops hit town June 20, 2003 FIVE United States warships carrying around 6,500 American servicemen and women will dock in Sydney Harbour this morning en route home from the war against Iraq. The fleet, led by a pair of 844-foot amphibious assault ships, were due to come through Sydney heads from 7am, to begin docking at Garden Island from 7.30am (AEST). The sailors and marines have spent the past few months in the Persian Gulf as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the US-led war which overthrew Saddam Hussein's regime. The personnel will disembark the ships at about 10.30am and spend a weekend of rest and recreation in Sydney. A US Consulate spokesman said the port visit was the fleet's first major one, providing personnel with a much-anticipated break. "It will provide them with the opportunity to learn about Australia and experience the hospitality of their hosts," he said. The USS Boxer, the USS Bonhomme Richard, the USS Pearl Harbour, the USS Dubuque and the USS Cleveland will leave for San Diego on Tuesday.

The stops I made in Perth and Hobart on the Kitty Hawk in '97 are still, to this day, the best liberty I've EVER had in almost 8 years in the Navy. The hotness and, ahem, friendliness to Americans, of Australian women are legendary among sailors. Those sexy accents, tight bodies... Who needs prostitutes? I just hit the clubs and hooked up with locals.
I will DEFINITELY have to get back there soon. Unfortunately, I'm stationed in the Atlantic Fleet. Someday though... -Mikey |

I remember these stories from few months ago, right after Afghanistan a carrier battle group pulled into Perth for a 3 or 4 day shore leave. When they left a brothel closed its doors because the women were too tired! Go USA!
Brothel locks doors after sailors exhaust prostitutes- LINKY - Langtrees brothel in Perth had taken 580 bookings since three US warships docked there three days ago. War stress wears out prostitutes - LINKY PERTH prostitutes were reeling from exhaustion following an influx of United States sailors stressed from a stint in a war zone, a well-known madam said today. On a serious note – we love ya Australia – your ethnic mutts just like Americans, you have always been great allies. I hope we treat you well as you deserve
