We May lose Michigan for a little bit...
If there is not a budget passed by midnight tonight, The state of Michigan will shut down.....
For a list of what will not be available in that case:http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...ETCRISIS092007 Just what this state may need, sad to say..... |
Damn, and only a couple weeks after I move to Seattle. Easily the best thing Granholm's ever proposed.
(...not that that's saying much...) |
The truth is, they're shutting down because they're terrified to play Ohio State and they're hoping that by shutting down, they can avoid the tromping they're undoubtedly going to face in the coming weeks.
They're just timing it now so it doesn't seem obvious. |
look on the bright side, you can discriminate all you want, they won't be investigating, you can kill all the deer you want, they won't be monitoring, and all the free manure for your garden you can handle, right there on the road...
have fun, michigan! ok, seriously, things like this baffle me. i understand them intellectually, but the fact that they can happen still kinda baffle me, that humans who live together, in a community, would let these things happen. of course, what if that did happen, and the people of michigan decided "fuck it, we'll do it ourselves" and picked up the manure, policed themselves, etc. then they would realize they don't need as much government as they thought, and the government would see their jobs in danger and start really WORKING for the people...THAT would be kinda interesting... |
Interesting point squeeeb
Interesting point. What ever happened to the days when government was run by the average citizens? You know, the farmers and common folk...oh that's right, it never was. Damn.
|
shoot, new york is still living in 1988...
|
buh-bye, michigan! godspeed! if ever there was a time to secede, this is it. wise move on you guys' part, i must say.

Every Buckeye's fantasy.

If they are unable to "make money", the next best thing is to simply make it so they can't lose any ;)
:edit: On another note, if people "flee" Michigan, are they considered refugees? -Will |
Can someone explain this to a puzzled Brit?
This story has received no coverage in the UK. |
Interesting tactic. I liked what squeeb said about no government, but in Michigan people are fairly used to that sort of thing. Outside of Lansing, K-Zoo, GR, and Detroit, not a lot of people are really going to notice anything different. I hope Granholm does shake up the state legislature. Not just the stodgy assholes from GR, but the 'liberal' backstabbers from Detroit as well.

Michigan didn't close down (only for 3 hours on Monday), but the income tax increased from 3.9 percent to 4.6 percent and raised the personal exemption from $2,500 to $3,360.
