Where the hell is my BUTTERSCOTCH?

When I was living in the States (a long, long time ago) I got hooked on butterscotch. Butterscotch sweets, butterscotch malted shakes. butterscotch anything I could get my hands on. Trouble is, there's none of it here in Europe.

What's butterscotch made of anyway?

butter and sugar

Seriously, I don't know...I do like butterscotch, but just the candies. I don't like 'butterscotch-flavored' things in general.

I sometimes special order butterscotch liquer from Holland. It's great stuff and only 15% alcolhol. I've let some of my friends have a taste but they usually say it tastes like burnt almonds or caramel. Is it possible that it is made from that?

BTH. I don't like to be a kill-joy but ......... there is no evidence that the Vikings wore horns (or tusks) on their helmets. Actually, the general concensus is that they never did but that the theatre and eventually Hollywood thought it might be a nice touch - and so the myth was born.

Oh, I'm aware of that.

I'm more interested in what he has to say about why he is wearing it.

The quote is from a street person in NY that Diane Arbus used to hang out with and photograph back in the early '60s.

Yes. It's great stuff isn't it! No, I'm not in the UK. I thought scotch might be an American "turn" of Scots where the stuff might have originated.

Thanks heaps for the link! If you hear an explosion "across the sleeve" you'll know I've failed and my kitchen is no longer operatable!
