Jury Rejects Shoe Death Charges
A follow-up on the death by stiletto heel story.
Wed June 18, 2003 08:12 AM ET NEW YORK (Reuters) - A jury threw out manslaughter charges against a 220-pound (100-kg) woman alleged to have sat on her ex-lover's chest and clubbed him to death with her size 12 high-heeled shoe, her lawyer said on Tuesday. The bizarre early morning fight in Brooklyn on June 7 made newspaper headlines, but a New York State Supreme Court grand jury decided on Monday that Anna Rhinehart, 40, acted in self-defense. "I am happy for my client but it is very unfortunate that Mr. Bonds actually died and I don't think my client is responsible," Rhinehart's lawyer Darren Fields said. Rhinehart told police she fought Bonds in self-defense after he punched her in the mouth, knocking out her two front teeth. The struggle began when Bonds became angry after seeing Rhinehart at a restaurant with another man, police said. Fields said his client did not seek any altercation with Bonds "and I think ultimately she got justice." The lawyer added, "She didn't do anything to contribute to Mr. Bonds' death and the grand jury looked at the evidence and came back with the same decision." |

He caught her cheating on him, he became enraged and hit her knocking out 2 of her teeth. It isn't right to hit a woman in any cirumstance but I guess I can understand why he did, he was angry with her for cheating on him. But then she proceeds to SIT on him with her fat 220 pound ass and beat him to death with a high heel shoe? That's manslaughter not self defense, if it was self defense she wouldn't be sitting on the guy because that's an offensive assault not something you do by reaction. No one can get up when a 220 pound ape woman is sitting on them, she had the situation undercontroll but she felt he had the right to murder him because he hit him.
And for all we know she could have knocked out her own teeth in an attempt to look innocent and abused. This case needs further investigation and I think she got off way too easy... Last edited by Soothe; 06-19-2003 at 12:03 AM.. |

She should be accountable for something. There is such a thing as equal force. You can't attack someone with more force than they attacked you with even in self defense cases. The man deserved to get his ass handed to him, but I don't see a reason in this article for her to have killed him. The article says she clubbed him to death so that in my mind means he was dead before she stopped beating on him. It was mostly likely rage on her part, and well deserved, but I think she got off easy. Murder is murder.

I think she got off easy. After all she sat on him and beat him. Let's imagine for a minute that it was reversed and he sat on her and hit her (not killing her) he would be screwed for life. They would have him in prison so fast it's not even funny. She sat on him and killed him. He hit her out of rage she killed him out of rage. A person must be in control of their emotions at all times. Both were wrong in what they did and they should've been accountable for what they did. of course he's dead so I guess he paid the ultimate price. She shouldn't get off this easy.. gotta love our justice system.
