Its that time...again

The cherished dinner hour void of telemarketers could vanish next year for millions of people when phone numbers begin dropping off the national Do Not Call list.

I just re-uped

Yeah, but after seeing The 40-year Old Virgin, don't we all know what to do?

Hmmm...care to enlighten those of us that missed out on that cinemagraphic masterpiece. ;)

My memory cannot retrieve what has been lost in the ravages of time (be it may only two months prior to seeing it.)

Here is my personal solution: I do not own a phone. Therefore, annoying calls are halted. Success.

Thank you, Tecoyah. I hate phones when they ring. (I don't mind phones I can play scrabble on :D) It is a telemarketer most of the time on the home phone.

The joy of cellphones: no telemarketer calls. They're not allowed. The most i ever get is the extremely occasional local business call, but they actually obey when you say not to call back.

Unfortunately, that's not necessarily true. If the number isn't on the list, then it's not protected, whether its a cell phone or not. Most telemarketers and list brokers don't have the ability to differentiate between cell and land lines.

I have to admit, I'm a little torn on this issue. On one hand, it's a bit inconvenient to have to re-up every 5 years, but on the other I see where numbers shouldn't be permanently parked.

And BOR, the "40 Year Old Virgin" referrence involves the title character calling a woman to ask her out, chickening out and pretending to be a telemarketers and her telling him to basically go fuck himself.

It's a lot funnier than I make it out to be, and you should check the movie out some time.

Done. Thanks for the reminder.

A question for those of us in Canada.

Is there a place for us to register our numbers?

Thanks.

With the kids growing and moving out on their own and nothing really good on TV any more (I have a dvr anyway), I have no good reason to re-up. Besides, it gives me someone to hone my sarcasm on.

analog- you have yet to encounter cell phone telemarketers? I get those periodically...
