I sorta' live out in the middle of nowhere. My closest (semi) major city, and airport, is Amarillo, Texas. This is a really interesting thread - it is really neat to see where people live. One thing I noticed (and I'm not attempting to start a flame war - just mentioning a fact!) is that many people who were born in Canada now live in the U.S. and those that live in Canada live within 50 miles of the US-Canadian border (That's not anything unusual either since the majority of Canada's population lives very close to the border). Canada is a breathtakingly beautiful place - or at least what I've seen of it is! I can't speak for all of Canada but I have been in the Prairie Provinces (which are just like where I live but farther North!), I've been to Toronto and Ontario, and spent nearly four years at NAS Argentia (FPO 103) in Newfoundland. I hope to have the opportunity to go back there some day. Everyone lives somewhere (that was just pretty damned deep for me!) and many of you live in areas that most people only dream of visiting. Australia is a place I've always wanted to visit. The closest I've gotten to Australia was Hawaii and that was at 3 AM, running from a typhoon, and only on the ground long. enough to get enough gas to keep on truckin'. My son did have the good fortune when he was in the Navy to go places I've never been, and a couple I'm glad I missed - 3 times to Kuwait. I'll shut up now - just really cool to see where some of ya'll live!

Don't know too much about Latrobe, but right across this bridge is the world famous (?) Genesee Brewery.

And there, in all its glory, on the opposite side of the same bridge, is KODAK!!!!!
So there is my town. Beer and photos, my life in a nutshell.

Ha ha, that's the same as me saying the closest I've got to USA is New Zealand! Why don't you just come over? With the exchange rate between us it would cost you bugger all...

I was born in Deniliquin, NSW, and grew up both there & in Old Bar (a coastal town of 400 near Taree). I'll try and show you where...

On the NSW map (below), Deniliquin is about where the first 'g' is in 'Wagga Wagga'. Old Bar is about 27kms from Taree, on the coast...

I hope that sort of makes sense. For interest sake Wagga Wagga is where i'm working at the moment. It's got about 60,000 souls and is a long way from anywhere...

Chytrak 06-23-2003 06:53 PM

Born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Joined the Air Force and lived in San Antonio, TX and Clovis, NM for 4 years. Most of that time spent in New Mexico. I was stationed at Cannon AFB and a common phrase was that we were 7 miles from Hell (Clovis) and 100 miles from anywhere else. It was true too. Lubbock and Amarillo, TX were both about 100 miles away.

Now, I live in Madison, WI and have been here for about 2 years. State Street in the summer... doesn't get much better... ;)

I'd really like to know. I hear people on the news saying stuff like "oh, Liverpool...cultural centre of the EU in five years...etc....blah de blah de blah...", but I don't know why. I there something I don't know?

btw, this is not a sarcastic post. I am genuinely befuddled.

All I can say Pyrate is that you are more than welcome to come and visit our little port anytime. I accept that you live in the capital of our land and that alone carries so much history that there just isn't enough time to go into that. Liverpool has an amazing amount of history too. Again, if I had all day I could bore you to death I'm sure!

In a nutshell, Liverpool is a growing, dynamic, warm, friendly and exciting city. I'm very proud to be a Scouser as I've said before. I've not met many people who are as passionate about where they live as Scousers are about their home town, and I talk to people from all over the UK during the working day.

Be sure of one thing though. The stereotypical Scouser is a distant image. Yes we buy more Trainers than any other city, but hey, we have a thing about sports shoes!

Live long and prosper!

Nah...that's Rolling Rock. I grew up less that 30min. away from Latrobe. Genessee is, I believe, brewed somewhere in upstate New York. Rochester, maybe. Both are fairly good beers, though. ;)

Jim Kata 06-25-2003 09:19 AM

Born and Bred in Northern Virginia. Got the beach (which is pretty shite) about 2 hours away, Mountains about an hour away, and the city about 45 minutes away. Can't really ask for anything else.

Vyk 06-25-2003 07:52 PM

I was born in Enid, Oklahoma (yes, it's about as hick as it sounds) and am currently living in Dayton, Ohio.

Having lived in New York, Hawaii, California, Florida and the Philippines, I'm not sure why I decided to stay in the oh so exciting world that is Ohio.

Yeah, I'm stuck in Wagga untill summer, so i guess the Vic will be my home for a while... but I'll always go back to Coogee!

I used to have a mate at Wagga Ag College that wore a Norfolk Island Rugby League Club jumper... never knew his real name though, we called him 'Flange'...
