Interesting how some attitudes change with time. I recently stumbled across a site that has those ads and got a real kick out of reading them.

People often say I smile a lot and since I usually eat the fat others cut off their meat, I can see I have lard to thank for my happiness

They were. Many years ago I was with a group of volunteers who were cleaning out an old social club (called Odd Fellows, of all things!) Anyway, we found a chest full of Life and Look magazines from the 30s and 40s. You knew you were big in Hollowood in those days when you were asked to do a cigarette ad.
