Old School Ads... funny stuff!

I thought these were entertaining enough...

Interesting how some attitudes change with time. I recently stumbled across a site that has those ads and got a real kick out of reading them.

People often say I smile a lot and since I usually eat the fat others cut off their meat, I can see I have lard to thank for my happiness ;)

All of those are really quite humourous

Sultana 08-10-2007 07:10 AM

Post more! (Or post the site). Those are freakin' hilarious!

Kadath 08-10-2007 07:48 AM

It's a shame, but I always wonder about photoshopping when I see ads like this.

xepherys 08-10-2007 08:27 AM

no, ads like this were actually quite common back in the day... i'll look for more

They were. Many years ago I was with a group of volunteers who were cleaning out an old social club (called Odd Fellows, of all things!) Anyway, we found a chest full of Life and Look magazines from the 30s and 40s. You knew you were big in Hollowood in those days when you were asked to do a cigarette ad.

Those were pretty cool. Lard and happiness..............................sanitized tape worms.......

I love the old smoking ads. I found some more this morning...some really funny stuff.

So, how many kids do you think put on that Superman costume and, being 'ready for action', tried to fly off a roof? (we didn't use costumes, we pinned bathtowels around our necks :D)

I'd say enough of them broke something or other to warrant costume making companies to put a disclaimer on Superman costumes that they do not actually make you fly.

The products change but the adds are pretty much the same.

That thing even looks like a tape worm. (haha they didn't like me stealing their bandwidth)

Ah the McDonalds life style.

Near and dear to my heart.

I'm sure if someone took more time they could come up with better examples.

I love the old adds from a historical perspective, but just remember your grand kids will be laughing at pretty much everything we did too. Hindsight does that ;)

The smiling soldier IS a photoshop, although it's been cleaned up. Usually it encourages you to have a piping hot cup of shut the fuck up.
