West Memphis Three case reopened
I thought we had a thread about this case at one time.....but I cant find it if we did.
I dont know if anyone else has followed this case like I have, for those that dont know about it here are couple of sites where you can get familiar with it if you wish http://www.wm3.org/ http://www.crimelibrary.com/notoriou...s/index_1.html Two documentaries were made, Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2: New Revelations. Quote:
It was released, yesterday I think, that new DNA results have been released, tying evidence at the crime scene to one of the kids step fathers and this particular evidence does not belong to John Mark Byers (father of victim Christopher Byers). Anyway, I wondered if anyone else here followed this case and was as excited as I am that its FINALLY being reopened

I don't recall the case at all, but it would seem to me, if there were bite marks and sexual assault, the use of DNA would be easy enough to exonerate these three. Just gotta hope the police didn't botch things up further by destroying biological evidence.

there are a LOT of things about this case that "should have been easy" but yet 3 boys with NO physical evidence linking them to the crime were convicted, one of them even sentenced to death.
The documentaries were really really well done, well worth renting them

About fucking time. People have to learn that convicting someone, anyone, for a crime doesn't solve anything if they're innocent. Far too many people are satisfied with whatever a court decides, right or wrong, without even looking at the facts.

Yesterday was a big big day, in fact the last couple of weeks have been, but yesterday was the press conference about the new WRIT OF HABEAS CORPUS that has been filed in federal court, they are pushing to get Damien proclaimed innocent and presenting evidence from very well respected experts that the prosecution's experts were just dead wrong or lied. Along with the fact that there is NO DNA evidence matching the WM3, they are now saying (the new experts) that all the "knife and bite marks" were not those at all, forensic pathologist Michael Baden (as well as others) are putting all wounds to being post mortem animal predation.
On a WM3 board Im on, John Mark Byers has recently joined and a new part of the story has broken. He is now in full support of releasing the WM3. I never thought I would see the day.... Here is an article to read and two interviews to watch http://abcnews.go.com/TheLaw/story?id=3808760&page=1 http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=3808599 http://www.myeyewitnessnews.com/medi...&navCatId=3831 The man still seems a little odd to me, but his words are so heartfelt it was all I could do not to totally cry over this...because as I said....I NEVER thought....I'd be hearing them from him.

This is quite good news. I've heard some mixed things about Echols tho, but that doesnt mean I dont think he is 100% innocent.

I haven't really looked at the case in a long while, but when I did I couldn't find anything to connect the convicted teens with the murder. Hopefully justice will be served in the end.
And it's kind of funny that I, who despise most pop culture and especially celebrity activism, first heard of the case from a PSA at the end of a Blink 182 video a few years ago. |

My knowledge of the case doesn't extend far past the first Paradise Lost Doc. I remember debating with my parents about it. My dad was sure the dyed haired evil looking, evilly named kid Damian was guilty and I wasn't quite sure. He sure acted guilty but the evidence just wasn't there for me. Hopefully having this case reopened will bring up new evidence that will find the real killer(s).

15 years ago today, May 5th 1993 Steve Branch, Christopher Byers, and Michael Moore went missing, only to be found dead the next day on May 6th....regardless of the trials, "new" evidence, who guilty or who isnt etc and my thoughts and prayers are with their families and my heart still goes out to them even after all these years for their loss.

Man, I don't remember this case at all. But reading the articles provided it reminds me of a DA on the North Oregon Coast. Do anything to convict and never agree to look at new evidence. And never, ever reopen a case. Guilt, innocence? Merely words. I sat in staffings on cases where the entire attitude and atmosphere was "yeah, but can we get a conviction here?" Umm, excuse me. Any one ever consider the person in question didn't do it? Nope! Find a suspect, zero in on him and convict at all cost.

sadly this is the case with the majority of DA's and their offices. Cases like this should really open the eyes of people in this country to see just how broken the system is, but most of the time the people have the same attitude as the DA. "If he didn't do it, he wouldn't have been arrested!" |
