Nationals Lincoln-Douglas Topic

Resolved: On balance, violent revolution is a just response to political oppression.

All I want to know is if you are Affirmative (Agreeing) or Negative (Disagreeing) with this.
Or you can say you're unsure (The "It depends" deal).
Whichever way, explain why you think so.

Me? I've got to say I'm pretty much on the Aff side of this. It seems the only effective response is just more violence these days. We don't have Ghandi here, and even if so, peace activists seem to never get their way. Just more violence (Ugh). It's having to fight fire with fire (or something more powerful, but nothing less than equal to).

The violent revolution seems to be a legitimate form of self defense. I'm not a big fan of violence, but it does seem to be this way.

Negative.

Violent revolution would never work here in the US.

EVER.

The country is just too big, and any group that decided to get to Washington and string up/shoot/kill Shrub/Cheney/Congress would never get anywhere near them, as:

A) They and their scheme would be exposed long before they got to Washington

B) They could never get significant enough numbers to Washington without the authorities being alerted and prepared to meet them with far greater force.

C) Bush/Cheney/Congress etall would be long gone from Washington to various undisclosed locations.

It sure as fuck didn't work for the Black Panthers, nor did it work for SDS, did it?

Don't you have to argue both points?

In my experience, tt is best not to lean towards the Aff. or the Neg. in any resolution... just gather the necessary facts to support either side.

"Given enough facts, you can postulate anything from any viewpoint."

In other words, you can support any argument so long as the evidence and reasonings you provide are sound and well-articulated.

Isn't Lincoln Douglas something you debate in high school?

I thought the original intent of this thread was to discuss the debates that are prevalent in the major universities...

Is this Lincoln-Douglas for your high school or college?
