A good deed

Last Friday I went to my first hockey game. It was just Washington league not NHL or anything. They were having a contest there for a Subaru WRX and $10,000. The way the contest worked is you would buy these orange pucks for $5 a piece and try to throw them into the sun roof of a car that they would drive into the rink between first and second period. I didn't buy any pucks but a lot of people did, there must have been a thousand or more pucks on the ice. Who ever got their puck in the sun roof would get put into a raffle for a key. If you won a key you could try and open the trunk of the car between second and third period. If your key opened the trunk, you'd be the winner. I guess they had been doing this contest all season and lots of people had already won keys. They went for about ten minutes of people trying keys. Finally on like the twenty second key a guy won and balloons popped out of the trunk music played and people cheered. They drove the car off the ice the guy took his check and we went back to watching the game. One of the teams called a time out about four minutes into the third period. The announcer came and out and said "I've got something I think you guys might want to know." He was standing there with the guy who won the cash and car "Immediately after Mr. Guywhowon won his $10,000 check he signed it over to a animal rescue shelter." We gave the guy a round of a applause and went back to watching the game.

I just thought this was an awesome thing to do and thought I would share it with you people here. People like this really inspire me in so many ways.

People like that are greater than I ...and.... they must also have no where near as much college debt as I do.

well, that was nice of him.

It pains me to say this but i don't think I would have done the same. With all the debt I have...lets not get into that.

But, either he was happy with just the car, he really loves animals or he wasn't in need of the money as much as most people.

I mean, if you think about it, if you need the money why not just give half away or something? you know?

and also, why give it to an animal shelter when their are so many disadvantaged children's homes out there?

anyway, i think what i'm trying to say here is that, if i needed it, I'd keep it(as i'm sure many of you would and if i didn't need it, i'd give it to a much worthier cause such as a children's home or an Aids haven. (not that animals aren't worthy...i love them to bits. i have a sausage dog named piper and i love her to bits:thumbsup: )

Yea I think a lot of people give to human help organizations. I don't think animal help places get enough. Be careful which human places you give to. Make sure you donate to a 'hand up' type place and not a 'hand out' type place.

Debt seems to be molding our society more effectively than surplus. While applauding this guy's action, I don't understand it.

Pragmatically, it makes a lot of sense. He would have to pay taxes on his winnings, including the car. Giving the check to a charity might offset his 'income', virtually bringing him down to only winning the car.

It's like this, when you have ten thousand dollars... giving away ten thousand dollars is no big.
