The plastic bumpers do dent pretty easily. You drive in Chicago, take a look at the bumpers of other cars as you're driving home and you'll see. There are quite a few that are dented up in this city.

Upset leads to growth, OP. Pop out the dent and paint it if you have to. GH's wonderment seems most on-track.

It's just a car, dude. Even the nicest car eventually gets scrapes and bumps if you use it at all. Let go of being upset over it.

Nothing wrong with being upset that your wife had an accident. Probably not a good idea to be upset with her though.

Not if you know how to drive. (barring being backed into by someone else... just hope you have a metal bumper )

If she does this a lot, and it's always her fault or as a result of her being careless, I think he has a right to be a little upset with her. Cars aren't trivial investments, nor is carelessness something to be ignored. Sure it was small this time, but what about next time? Might not be so lucky.

From how it sounds, I too would be upset if my wife has a bit of a habbit of backing into things or other minor accidents.

Some people just cant drive, its that simple.

And to say its just a car? Sorry but life is more complicated than to just brush off $20,000+ dollars as if its nothing.

I get highly upset is some asshole dents/scratches my truck. And I will take it to the furthest extent I cant to get it fixed/paid for. I paid hard earned money for it, and it will be taken care of.

A dent is a far cry from a car being totalled. Recently someone backed into my car while I was parked and sitting in it. I just started laughing.

There are so many worse things. So my car has a battle scar, so what? I am fine, no one was hurt and there isnt even a claim on my insurance.

I told the guy to go on about his merry way and have a better day.

Call me crazy.

Okay. I'll take the bait. You're crazy.

Unless the damage was very minor (<100), I don't like to let strangers walk all over me in such a manner.

Crazy/Beautiful indeed

I thought this thread was going to be about cheating (which would be weird for general discussion.) Being in a comparative mind set when I read that it was a ding on a car it seemed almost laughable to be upset about it.

I beg to differ! had it been my car that someone backed into, I most probably woulda got out and shouted a little...ok, a lot, and then i woulda made him/her pay for the damage.

but also, woulda been glad that I nor he/she or anyone else got seriously hurt.

I too have a habit of running into things. I blame it on the fact that I go from riding my tiny scooter to driving my massive Jeep. I some times forget just how big the Jeep is.

But now that I think about it. I've been in just as many accidents on my scooter as I have in my Jeep.

Just wanted to chime in with something additional...

There are no such things as "accidents", there is only operator error.

Yup. Good point. Unless it's caused by equipment failure or "act of God" as the insurance companies put it (a rock dropping from a cliff onto your car would qualify), the idea that a traffic "accident" is an accident is stupid. They're almost always caused by inattentive or careless driving, and this one's no different. Sky's wife either wasn't paying attention or hasn't bothered to learn the dimensions of the car - -either way, it's a choice that she made and therefore is not an accident.

Reminds me of something a trucker told me: if a truck kicks up gravel and damages your car, it isn't their fault. If something falls off the roof and damages your car, they pay for it. Any damage caused by a commercial truck should be reported as having been caused by debris falling off the roof.

My car has been hit three times since moving to Lubbock. First it happened in one of the dorm parking lots, someone must have been backing out and turning too sharp and hit my bumper and scratched and dented my fiberglass bumper.
Then I was at the airport, ok people lets think this through, the AIRPORT, and I was looking for a spot on the ground level close to the terminal behind a red truck and suddenly this guy kicks it in park and then in reverse without even looking at his mirrors. BAM. He backs right into me. Of course there was someone on my ass so I couldn't back up, and I was just in shock. My flight was leaving in 45 mins so I told him to go and piss off. Unacceptable.
Stupid Lubbock drivers. If I ever catch someone hitting my car I'm going to sue my little heart out. My patience for little bumps has ended.
Oh and the worst was when I was in the Target parking lot, someone backed into my driver side wheel area on the back. WTF! I drive a fucking beetle! It's 2 inches long, are they serious?!
So yea I won't tolerate bumps. People need to be careful.
