Hmm I cant properly tie my shoes, HELP
 

I've always had this problem. I tie my shoes but after enough movement, they become undone. I use the double ears method yet it never stays tied. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I'm way too old to be asking someone how to correct this problem. Maybe you guys can help me. It's aggravating as all hell and embarrassing.

Sure, you can tie up your shoes 99 different ways but how secure it is partly depends on the material and surface finish of the lace. Some of the lacquered/waxed/polished cord materials are so slippery that they're harder to keep tied tightly. Get different lace material, maybe the typical flat unpolished shoe lace. Or consider velcro instead of laces.

your probably tying a granny knot...

after you have tied your normal knot do the loops of the bow tend to lay along the foot... like toward toe and heal or across the foot draping down the sides?

if they lay better along the foot your tying a granny knot

try doing the overhand the other way, that first bit at the beginingwhere you put one lace over and under the other...

I'm 22, no way in hell I can ask anyone lol.

An old trick for making some laces grip better is to wipe them down with shoe polish (and wipe the excess off until clean).

I've found that certain pairs of my shoes tend to become untied faster than others, regardless of how tight I tie them...does this happen with all your shoes?

I had this problem with a pair of spikes that I raced in one year in college. I finally ended up taping them down. Ugly, but it did the trick.

However, this solution is probably unworkable in the world outside of cross country races.

Perhaps a trip to pick up the Boy Scouts Manual is in order?

Round laces will come untied faster than flat ones.

Obviously the solution is to wear velcro shoes. :)

Seriously, some laces just come undone more than others. If you look at the link provided above and you are tying them correctly, I would just not worry about it and retie them when they come loose.

Velcro seems to work for both the very young and very old.
Somewhere in the middle and for some unknown reason we turn our noses up at velcro as if we are too sophisticated now that we've learned to tie laces.

Personally, I use the standard knot and cinch the shit out of them. Of course, I go through several pairs of shoelaces a year....

This is why I've worn sandals for almost two years straight..

D'oh... I forgot about my other idea, which was to be one of those people that always wears sandals. Just make sure you don't wear socks with them because you will irritate people. :)

It can be about the fit of the shoe and whether the lace is properly tightened. If the shoe or lace has too much wiggle room the knot will come undone when you walk. Make sure to tighten the laces properly from the toe end and upwards before you tie them.

I tie my shoes backwards, but I'm still not sure what that means. Apparently, when I learned to tie my shoes, I mirrored the motions of the people who were facing me and demonstrating. Therefore, I tie my shoes backwards. At least that's what Grancey tells me.

And I don't know if it's related or not, but I can say my alphabet backwards, too.
