Bicycle, down the Virginia Creeper Trail...

sound pretty innocent, but I had never had a bike growing up as a kid and had only ridden one for a grand total of 500 yards my whole life. The trip was 12 miles (fortunately downhill) and I kept crashing... worst part was it was part of a girl scout camp counselor training so everyone else was doing really great and thought I was on drugs or something. When we finished the trail, the camp director was like "Sage, what's wrong with you today?!?" and I was like "I've never ridden a bike before!"

I think her jaw hit the ground. It'd never occured to her to ask if anyone didn't know how to ride a bike.

Sage, I'll say you were very brave to attempt that ride, having never ridden any distance before!

yes, I would absolutely drive it. I've been toying with the idea of making a pulsejet gokart since the construction seems easier than a jet turbine (and a lot cheaper). I'd do it tomorrow, but the whole "I might just kill myself with this little project" factor keeps making me put it off

it's a jet that does not require a turbine. The germans used them in the V1 buzzbombs that they sent toward London in WW2. The type I'd build is a Lockwood pulsejet, which is a U shaped tube with no moving parts. You inject propane into it and light it off.

This site should give you plenty of info if you're curious. And bored.

http://aardvark.co.nz/pjet/lhkart.shtml

One read of that and you'll understand why I think I might just die if I try to build one

Actually, the wildest thing I've driven is the car I own now-drove it on dragstrips in KC(got low ET for the weekend) and Bristol, TN, plus 5 laps @70mph at Bristol Motor Speedway. Felt like I was gonna tip over and never got out of third gear

Haven't actually driven too much though. Flown a parachute and an airplane. Driven go-carts, motorcycles, skidoos, boats, cars, and trucks... need to get my hands on a tank, and at some point a submarine....

Heh. Shakran, mind if I take out a policy on you?

Wheeled jets - pulse or otherwise - seem to add a Darwinism multiplier. Check out Richard Hammond's whoops this past season on the way to 300MPH. Top Gear S9E1 covers it pretty well. Ow.

As for that cart, stretch it another foot. It's not like you'll be turning much.

I really like gokarts, lots of fun and you learn a lot about vehicle dynamics and handling. I have my doubts about that gokart above ...as to how it would handle, stop, etc. not to mention if my right ear would be totally deaf after a drive.

My fun toy car that I have now is by far the fastest and most fun vehicle I've ever owned ...or likely to own. It's a semi-luxurious street car not a hardcore race car, so I drive it frequently and have lots of fun with it. A few months ago I completed a turbo upgrade along with related support systems which put it over 700hp, so it's no slouch. Here's a little picture of me roadracing it at Pocono last year:

If i build this thing that policy might become necessary.

Now, a lockwood pulsejet powered gokart isn't gonna get anywhere near 300mph. In fact unless I get some insanely huge engine on there it probably won't go as fast as a decent shifter kart. I'm thinkin' 70mph probably for the one I'd build. If I build it. . .

Not only would I drive it, I wouldn't mind owning it.

Here's another potentially wild ride I found on Craigslist: http://sacramento.craigslist.org/car/279488882.html

I don't have any driver's license at all. But I've driven one or two of these shiny red vehicles which seats about 70 people comfortably:

Only very slowly on parking lots though. But it was awesome enough with the powerful diesel engine and having the driver's seat in front of the front wheels!

^ 700bhp?! How well does the rest of the car cope with that? What car is it?

That's a Supra, and they're built incredibly well. It can take 700hp without even breaking a sweat. Believe it or not there are lots of Supras out there that have a lot more than 700hp.
