I remember during the banana "crisis" the sydney morning herald quoted a darlinghurst (sydney) cafe had a sign in their window

"no bananas kept on premises"

I think they can take that down now.

dlish 02-08-2007 02:05 AM

the day i knew the banana crisis was over is when i went to mum and dads place and they had a banana sitting there... needless to say it'd been a year since my last one, so it didnt last more than a few seconds.

I asked my wife if she was mad, the first day she bought bananas home :)

aKula 02-08-2007 04:02 AM

They were the cheapest way of impressing someone. Important for those both miserly and pretentious. Not that I bought any. My mother bought a few because she really likes eating them and they're healthy.

So are there import controls due to quarantine concerns or is it just protectionism?

I like beer... alot. Banana's are good too. Banana beer though I'm not so sure about.

I like to jump in at the end of long threads without first reading through them. I like the invigorating feeling of posting totally off-topic.

I also have very poor spelling and no interest in improving it.

btw: excellent thread, from what I've read of it. A great idea!

I am lazy, procrastinating, and an artist.

So in other words I'm an artist. ;)

I know a funny story about my boss in australia and bananas

basmoq 02-09-2007 07:02 PM

med school interviews have me stressed to the limits, and now I just racked up $120 in overdraft fees for 4 transactions under $2 each...

**Goes to cry**

Hail Citizen!

I float in bulbous cell of blue cytoplasm.
My turgid organelles often throb without warning
and I like to listen to baseball on the radio.

I've been living in a 1900 Victorian house wrapped up like an antarctic explorer for a month, and I'm good and tired. Punxsutawney and his breatren better be right or I'm going groundhog hunting. Oh, and this is my first post to the TFP in quite alooong time. Welcome Tigerlilly!

I'm an English professor specializing in children's literature at a major university in the South.

I'm almost debilitatingly shy.

My favorite topic is my family. My wife Grace is a nurse instructor in the university nursing program and my sister is in medical school.

I'm a comic book nerd and my wife is a science fiction and sciene nerd. My sister is actually cool.

I'm debilitatingly shy in any social setting, but have no problem speaking in public as a part of my profession.

I think Battlestar Galactica is the best show on television, with Rome a close second.
