Becoming an ordained minister
I'm thinking about becoming an ordained minister. This site http://www.ulc.org/ says I can be ordained in less than 3 minutes. My question is this a joke or will I get all the benefits of an ordained minister?
|
.
my question is, if you're serious about becoming an ordained minister, can you live with yourself that, even if that site is legit, you got all the benefits of an ordained minister in less than 3 minutes? . |
"everything but the boy"
|
YOu can only get the benefits if you're actively performing a Minister's duties (having a ministry set up.) Then you can get away with not paying taxes :)

Ministers pay income tax.
The church does not. |
even if the site is a scam, you should become a minister anyway, it could be fun
|
I find it frightening that someone could become a minister in 3 minutes since most ministers are seen as relatively powerful people within their communities.
Of course, I don't think this site is legit. |
Yes, the site is legit. The only requirement (in the states) for becoming an ordaind minister is that an established church recognizes you as such. Universal Life Church is an established church. The person that started it believes that everyone has a little bit of God in them and is therefore qualified to be a minister.
So as long as you play by the rules of that church (promoting freedom of religion and not interfeering with anyone elses rights, and not doing anything illegal) they will recognize you as a minister. Once you get your ordained certificate you need to register with your county clerk. A friend of mine did this so he could legally marry a couple. |
I think I'm going to do it. I'll be my town's first agnostic minister.
|
so i could become an athiest minister...
hehehe cool.... |
Before you laugh too hard, I have a friend and a son-in-law who both were ordained through the Universal Life Church. The friend performed that marriages for both of my children. My son-in-law has performed weddings for a few friends and family members. Those marriages were all recognised by the state.
So, yes, you can be a minister in 3 minutes. For what priviledges that gets you, you will have to do the research. |
why laugh, G_Whiz? my father is supposed to be a preach. i have no shame for it: its him.
I've been told my whole life I'd be a preacher when i grew up. uhhh "Thanks you Jesus. we kicked satan right in the fucking ass! amen!" i don't think this would fly well :> |
I am now Reverend Snoogans, thanks Jesus Pimp
|
I gave it a whirl. Weird.
|
Ah, good old Universal Life Church. Without them I'd just be Mr_Skarekroe. sk
|
My roomate is a ULC minister. I think he just wanted to be able to marry people, and to have Rev. on his drivers license.
|
I became a ULC minister. Problem is, I have to register with the State (Victoria, Australia) if I want to be able to do anything like marriages. Haven't looked into it too much.
