Incense (and peppermints, blah, blah)

Before I continue, the word is INCENSE and not incest. ;)

In school we burned incense to cover up other smoke-related smells. Churches burn it for tradition. Others burn it because they like the fragrance.

What's your reason?

EDIT: oh, I like the smell.

mackyroo 06-10-2003 01:21 PM

I burn it occasionally for the fragrance, but I've been known to use it to cover up weed smell.

Cynthetiq 06-10-2003 01:37 PM

i stopped with the incense.... I use oils now...

just because they are fragrant.

WhoaitsZ 06-10-2003 01:50 PM

i've never gotten into the incense thing.

if a friend or girl likes it, fine. if not i never am around it.

just not that kinda guy i guess.

Tom Thumb 06-10-2003 02:42 PM

Doesn't do much for me. I'll tolerate it if someone else wants to light a candle, but that's about it.

Though if I find a smell I really like, I might do it for relaxation. But I haven't yet.

I love it, I burn candles, incense, oils and anything else that has a nice smell. I am very much into smells. Seems to have a calming effect.

The_Dude 06-10-2003 03:08 PM

i was raised in an indian home, so we use it a lot

I can't stand the smell of most incense. No matter the "scent" they all have the same sicky/overpowering smell to them.

I prefer essential oils and scented candles, but only a few scents, most are gross.

sierra2774 06-10-2003 05:42 PM

I used to burn it, mainly for the scent, but then I started making my own candles and I burn only them now...Just because I love my house to smell good.

cdwonderful 06-10-2003 10:09 PM

some incense is very nice and some is totally sickening, I do like candles scent just as well. as well a s the glowing lights...

roothorick 06-10-2003 10:45 PM

There's nothing quite like an open can of gasoline to calm the nerves... But you really gotta watch it, one spark and you could have the bomb squad at your house in fifteen seconds. That actually happened once....

Ok, honestly speaking, there's a few scents that really bother me (skunk and body oder oddly not being in that group) but besides that I ignore my olfactory input altogether unless I need it for something (e.g. pinpointing a burnt-out fan) or what I'm smelling should send up red flags (e.g. burning PCB inside my computer). I'm really a lot more about auditory input; I blast my music because it allows me to escape reality. I'm pretty hot on visual stimulus too; who needs weed when you have Goom? Synthesaesia(sp?) is the best thing in the world.

suviko 06-10-2003 10:54 PM

I like them, but bf doesn't so rarely burn 'em anymore.

A friend played with them when she quit smoking. She reasoned that one thing she liked with cigarettes was the smoke curling and flowing in the air and looking at the red glow in the dark night and emulated that. :)

phredgreen 06-11-2003 01:16 AM

i've added the option for those of us who just don't burn it. dosen't do a damn thing for me. teh only scented anything that gets used is the cherry-flavoured candle on top of the toilet.

guess what we use it for.

Troublebot 06-11-2003 05:54 AM

Use it in my basement to get rid of the mildewy smells. Plus, I like smelling good stuff.

Fallon 06-11-2003 06:07 AM

I'd have to say to cover stuff up, and occassionally like the smell. They all basically have a the same basic smell though so.

JStrider 06-11-2003 06:40 AM

i like to burn candles... but thats more because i like the soft lighting they give off and... its fire... more then the scent...

oblar 06-11-2003 07:03 AM

There needs to be another option: Too overpowering and gives me tremendous headaches.

A slight bit of incense can be ok at times, but generally the odor is too strong and my head begins to throb. I much prefer to just burn an unscented candle :) (even the scented candles are often too strong)

SiN 06-11-2003 07:33 AM

i go thru phases, sometimes i use, sometimes not...

just because i liek the smell. smells in general are good.

Gortexfogg 06-11-2003 08:14 AM

I don't really burn incense at home since I can tolerate most smells I produce. Though, I really love it at concerts and church. It really seems to fit in those situations.

spived2 06-11-2003 02:09 PM

I use it to cover up the cigarette smell in the barracks. Also good to enhance a romantic mood

Spungfoo 06-11-2003 04:57 PM

I burn white sage all the time... it covers up just about anything and is supposedly a natural anti-depressant too.

MacGnG 06-11-2003 06:56 PM

Nag Champa!!!!!!!
at first i was like eh, but then i realized how awsome it is lol
