Special Orders DO upset Us...
Hmmmm...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LINK 'Special order' ends in upset in Hampton Request turns ugly at Burger King By David Chernicky Daily Press June 7, 2003 HAMPTON -- When a couple ordered fast food Wednesday afternoon, what they got certainly wasn't a happy meal. Instead, police said, they got a bruising to go. It all started when a customer noticed that a cook wasn't wearing gloves. Noting that it wasn't very sanitary, he mentioned that fact to a manager at the East Pembroke Avenue Burger King. The manager told the cook to don gloves and recook the order. So far, so good. When the couple got to their seats, they realized they didn't have the french fries they ordered. So back to the counter they went, where they told the cashier there. The woman, later identified by police as Chiquita Gennell Oliver, took offense and threw the fries onto the couple's tray. That, said Detective Sgt. Richard Barger, sparked an argument and name-calling between the couple and the cashier. The cashier reached over the counter and took a swing at the female customer, hitting her in the shoulder. The couple in turn threw the fries back at the counter worker. A manager intervened by refunding the couple their money and sending the worker to the back of the restaurant. But Oliver wasn't finished, Barger said. She called her mother, saying she'd been hit by a customer. The brouhaha might have ended when the customers left the restaurant, but it didn't, police said. Minutes later, as the couple walked east on Pembroke, a fast-moving car pulled up to them and stopped near Skyland Road, said Cpl. Jimmie Wideman, Hampton police spokesman. The 29-year-old man and his companion recognized one of the passengers - the Burger King cashier. The four occupants - including 19-year-old Oliver and her mother - jumped from the car and began attacking the couple, Wideman said. One of the other passengers was a 17-year-old boy armed with a handgun. While the three women from the car assaulted the 23-year-old woman, the gun-toting juvenile assaulted and robbed her male companion, Wideman said. The victims suffered cuts and bruises during the attack. After the assault, the suspects climbed back into the car and sped away. Police said there's no indication that any of the parties knew one another before Wednesday. Early on Thursday, police arrested Oliver; her mother, Mattie S. Oliver, 37, both of the 300 block of Curry Street; and Shaquenta Ann Mczeal, 19, of the 2000 block of East Pembroke. All three were charged with two counts each of robbery, abduction and four counts of using a firearm in a felony. The three women were in the city jail without bail Friday. They have a June 19 court date. Detectives have petitions for the 17-year-old, who hasn't been arrested. Oliver had been working at the Burger King in Buckroe for about a month and half, an assistant manager at the fast-food restaurant said Friday. She refused to talk about the incident or Oliver's status. She referred calls to the fast-food chain's corporate office. Attempts to reach Burger King officials at its Miami headquarters were unsuccessful.

The glove thing... ok... there you can complain.
But if I'm at a fast food restaurant, and somebody "tosses" my fries onto a tray, I don't believe I'm gonna get in an arguement about it with the cashier. This is cause you are eating at BURGER KING for 10 bucks. Customer service is handled by 16 to 19 year olds. I don't think I'm gonna let my experience at Burger Palace lead to a shouting match. I'm not tryin to say these people deserved to be assaulted or mistreated in any way. But something tells me they came to the counter with a big attitude problem - cause you shouldn't get bent out of shape about things at a fast food restaurant. Your at Burger World, chill out, order your food, eat it and go home. If you don't like to eat at fast food places, don't. Maybe these people will learn to leave their attitudes at home. |

Who knows, really. Hungry people have no sense of humor and can be in a Really Bad Mood.
I had a guy drive up to my drive through with a gun. He jumped a long line. Too bad for him he didn't know we were across the street from a state police barracks. Okay, it turned out to be a BB gun. Still. |

My God, I count at least 17 stereotypes in this article. And like comedian George Lopez said, "Those damn stereotypes got to come from somewhere, homes."

To me, although the people who got beat didn't deserve it, they should face some public indecency charge. If you are wound so tight that you allow yourself to get into a profanity-laced tirade with a 19 yr old fast food cashier over a 79 cent order of fries - you need some help. Or at least a hobby. C'mon, these people needed to get a grip on themselves. This is fried fuckin potatoes, and I'm sure there were kids in the restaurant. There has to be laws against bad behavior on this scale. |

I'd say a large quantity of the workers right now, at McDonald's, are high school aged kids. There is nothing wrong with that, as most of them should be mature enough to handle the responsibility of a job. But are they really responsible enough to handle the everyday pressures of a part or full time job. Judging by this girls reaction, I'd think not.
There is no excuse for any employee of a business, big or small, to assault anyone buying goods or services from that company, no matter how much of a heathen they appear to be. The customer is ALWAYS right! If the customers getting served the fries had an issue with the way she threw the fries down, the best step is to speak with the manager or the corporate office and do it rationally. If the female worker had an issue with the customer, she should bit her tongue and keep it to herself. |

Perhaps they aren't responsible enough today, but the capacity is in them to be so at least. But, that is a whole new can of worms there. |
