Iowa's Painted Rock - you must look at this
I'm told that there is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy.25 in rural Iowa. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It's quite an impressive sight. Be sure to scroll down and check out the multiple photos (all angles) of the rock. I thought the flag was draped over t he rock, but it's not. It's actually painted on the rock too.
Here's the artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen. AWESOME Work, RAY...Thank you! "God Bless America" & "Our Soldier's & Vet's" This kid does incredible work! Is there any patriotic artwork in area? I don't know of any in my part of southern Michigan

Wow, that's an amazing piece of work.
There's a canon that's been on my old university's campus (University of Guelph) since its inception which is painted at least 3-4 times a week by students - it's a lot of fun to do. Nothing done was ever as meaningful as this is though. -Tamerlain

Well done, Ray "Bubba" Sorensen...as an artist who has painted a few murals long ago, none of my work has ever seemed nearly as inpspiring and a great tribute to our troops.
Perhaps I can campaign with some students to do something in this vein here in northeastern Ohio. Thanks to all for the effort and sharing this with us here. hunnychile

Wow,that is amazing. This guy has some real tallent. I did some searching for this rock, and it's called Freedom Rock, and happens to be less than 20 miles from where my husband grew up. I'll have to go take a peek when we go visit my father-in-law next month. Apparantly Ray changes the rock every year for the past 5 years on Memorial Day. Since he has been painting his murals noone has marked it with graffiti.
