When my alarm goes off in the morning?
We are all familiar with the sound of the alarm waking us out of our peaceful slumber reminding us we must get up. How many of you jump right out of bed when you hear the ring?
|
Well I don't "jump" out of bed, I'm 58 years old and not in good health.
I force myself out of bed because I don't want to be late for whatever. I usually can sleep as late as I want but three days a week I get up at 11:30. Not so bad, is it? :-) |
I wish I didn't but I always get right up when the alarm goes off. Always afraid I'll drift back off to sle.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
On another alarm note, I can't stand buzzers or bells so I use the radio. I used to have it set to the local NPR station. Which meant that I would wake up every morning to all of the depressing realities of the world today. Not good I found, no, no. So I changed it to the local "adult rock" station. We don't have a lot of choices around here for good radio, but still it made all the difference in my day. |
I am terrible at getting out of bed when the alarm goes. It got to the stage that I would set about 3 alarms, spaced 10 mins apart, in case I turned off one, and then fell back to sleep!
|
I get up. I HATE the snooze button, despite how much my fiance hits his.
|
I use the radio feature....and Im up as soon as it goes off...wouldnt do me any good to try to "snooz" I have to pee to bad when I wake up lol
I dont leave it on though, cause dave sleeps til im out of the shower, I turn on the one in my bathroom |
I chose the first option, although it's not really correct, but it's the closest to my situation. I turn my alarm off, lay there for ten minutes or so, and then get up. I hate the sound of the alarm, so I don't hit snooze....although I should. Every once in awhile I fall back to sleep and wake up 20 minutes later in "oh shit" mode.
|
I voted for jump out of bed right away, but half or more of the time I'm up a few minutes before the alarm even goes off at all.
|
I make sure I have my alarm clock set with the beeping noise that gradually gets louder just because it is the only noise that will wake me up.
|
Alot of times I wake-up a few minutes before my alarm goes off, even if I'm low on sleep (which is quite common). For those times that I don't, its usually because I'm close to being uncoscious. When that happens, if it isn't higher than 120 decibels, I'll sleep through it.
|
I set my alarm about 30 minutes before I'm supposed to get up.. so when it goes off I hit snooze 3 or 4 times and about the 4th time I'm already awake wondering why I keep hitting the snooze button.
|
I never hit snooze. I am usually up 10 minutes before the alarm goes off, and I lie there waiting for it to go off. When it does, I'm up and off to the shower.
|
I'm out of bed first thing. We use a cd clock radio and wake up to a cd each morning, so I let it play for a bit as I get up.

i say most of the time I get right up. It's auto snooze so it will go off again in 10 minutes if I do decide to snooze for a little longer. I only need it 3 days a week generally however I am programed to get up at 8am anyway which is when I set my alarm for. I'm thinking of setting it for 7:30

I voted jump out of bed...but then I crawl back in after hitting snooze.
I have to put the alarm on the other side of the bedroom or I'd never get up. So the alarm goes off, I jump out of bed because the sound annoys me, hit the snooze, and crawl back in bed for 10 minutes of snuggle/last minute sleep time. Sometimes I hit snooze another time, but typically just the once. |
I've programmed the alarm on my computer to say, in the infamous voice of Hal 9000 from 2001, "Goodmorning, Will. The current time is seven AM. It is time to wake up. What are you doing, Will? I'm afraid. I'm afraid. Will, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you." Then it does a bad rendition of Daisey as it shuts down. The nice thing is, I'm a big enough nerd to where this is funny every morning.

A surly Alan Rickman is always a pleasant way to wake up. |
I jump out of bed when I need to (ie: catch a flight, really have to go to class etc.)
Other than that, since my earliest class is 12 noon, my alarm usually goes off at 8 and I actually get up at around 9. |
I'm hearing impaired, so I have an alarm that vibrates. I actually wake up as if I've been startled, with a little shake/cringe.
After that I get up right away, unless I've had a bad night. In which case, I usually end up sleeping in an additional 5 minutes (usually). Only a few times do I wake up an hour later. I'm courious, how did you think of such a unique topic? |
I use my cellphone. This way, I can set multiple alarms. If I need to get up for something, the alarm gets set for 12:30, 12:40, 12:50, and 1:00... and if it was a late night, i'll put in for a few more just in case. I just keep putting it off until I HAVE to get up.
|
My alarm is set 10 minutes early so i can hit the sleep button and have a few minutes doze. My alarm is set to classic FM, on the whole its nice to wake up to a soothing piano or strings peice, but the odd occasion when they decide to play wagner, bah, apocolypse rising now is a good term:lol:
If i have something really important to get up for i usually wake up every half hour for the entire night before, so getting up is not a problem, as long as no-ones around that i can be grumpy at. |
I have to get up as soon as my alarm goes off. I've already trimmed any snooze time out of my morning schedule so I have to go.
|
Wheres the option for "I don't need an alarm clock, I have children" :)
|
Back in the day, I had my PC set to boot up at 6. The beep after the POST usually got me semi-awake. Then it'd play Who's The Boss by The Braxtons and Night Fever by the Bee Gee's in a loop until I turned it off.
Nowadays I use the cellphone for seperate alarms. One is set for an hour before I need to be at work and another for 10 minutes later. But make no mistake, I stay in bed until the last possible second. |
Snooze is a evil button, and I generally get up when the alarm goes off.
If I dont, I'll sleep in till 9am or so which would be a big problem... |
5:15 am, 2 snoozes then up like a robot, shower, dress, drive, and in my office chair by 6:45
Every... damn... morning. :D |
We don't have an alarm. Not a mechanical one anyways. We usually wake up to the sound of our Son calling for us, ("Morning? Morning?") between 6-6:30 every day. Our bodyclocks are so hard wired, that we'll wake up around then even if he doesn't.
Once awake, we lie there for a few minutes, enjoying the warmth of our duvet, until one of us volunteers to go get him. |
Alarm goes off at 4AM central every weekday. Some days I have to be up on the first alarm no matter what, and other days I can snooze for a half-hour or more. It all depends on what is happeneing that particular morning in my classes. It also depends on whether I have to shower, fix my lunch, and take out the garbage that morning, or if I did all those things the night before.
|
I usually hit snooze once and just lay there and relax until it goes off again and then I get up. But I really like those days where I have so much cool stuff going on that as soon as the alarm starts to chirp I'm completely energized and jump out of bed.
I also seem to have one of those nifty internal body alarm clocks but mine seems to be stuck set for 9 am (actually I think it's more related to how bright it is outside). No matter how late I say up I wake up by 9 or 9:30 feeling completely rested. Too bad my classes start at 9...boo. |
I usually lay there and listen to the music for about 5 minutes before I get up, unless it's a song I don't like, then I hit snooze and wait for another song.

There are times when I actually get up before my alarm clock gets up. Werid eh? |
I set my alarm a half hour before I generally like to get up. That way, if I decide to wake up on the first alarm, I have time to make breakfast, warm up some tea, and enjoy my morning (rarely actually happens). Usually I go back to sleep, and drag myself out of bed at the last minute. I'm not awake until I've taken a shower, so talking to me before than is pretty futile, unless you want a canned answer that I won't remember saying.

And like some folks mentioned previously, it also means I'm often up at the crack of dawn on the weekends, too. But I've gotten some pretty nice photographs at that time of the morning and the peace and solitude (before the kids are up!) is welcome, too...it's a trade-off. |
During the week I set the alarm for an hour and a half before I have to leave then generally lay there listening to the radio (set to News 1130 - its my only influx of what's going on in our world) for a half hour or so.
Sometimes I rest longer (if I want to be leisurly, I will take an hour to get ready, but it can be cut down to half an hour at the absolute max, shower and all), depending on how rushed I want to be. If its the weekend however and I'm with my guy, then he sets the alarm for whenever and we snuggle in bed till the absolute last minute! And then I generally just shower and go so it only takes me 15 minutes to get ready. I love sleep and hate getting up in the mornings so the longer I get to stay in bed, the better! |
I hate the alarm clock. I use my cellphone as the alarm and I put it very far away from me, and still I stumble out of bed and change the time later every time it goes off.
|
I work shifts and only use the alarm 2 out of 6 weeks when I'm working the morning shift so most of the time I just wake up whenever I do. For the morning shift I do just jump out of bed and turn off the alarm and get on with my day. I used to be the king of the snooze button but once I started having to wake up at 5am on those morning shifts I stopped using it.
Partially because I started making myself go to bed early enough that I would actually get a decent amount of sleep I guess. |
I'm not a morning person, nor have I ever been! Plus, I'm a procrastinator to the nth degree... If I could get up at 1 PM everyday, that would be perfect. I wait till the very last possible moment, sometimes beyond that even.
|
Get up, walk across the room, turn it off, go back to bed.
