Do you smoke in your car?

The subject came up at work a few days ago. One of the guys commented on how people who smoke in their cars have no respect for it, which I heartily disagreed with.

I only have two issues with in-car smoking. One is having at least one window in the car open to allow enough fresh air in. The other is the use of the car's ashtray. I detest it. I use my ashtray to keep spare change and a small lighter and throw my ash and cigarette butt out the window. Not the most environmentally friendly way of doing things, I know.

What are your thoughts?

I don't smoke cigs, but I don't mind when people smoke in my car as long as they crack the window a bit like you said, to let in fresh air. I normally have my window all the way down anyway (I rarely use my AC.) I also use my ashtray for spare change so they throw the butts out the window too.

I don't smoke, but I no longer allow smoking, or eating in my car. I do not have an easy way to hook up a vacuum and go to town on the interior of my car (until my house is finished), and it's just so much easier. Don't have to worry about burn marks, or any stench leftover, or finding old lettuce rotting away under my seat.

I don't smoke in my car. Well, one I don't drive, but on the rare occassion that I am in a car, I don't smoke. Even on road trips, we pull over at gas stations or rest areas to smoke.

For one, it stinks up the car and lowers the value. Also, the nicotine or smoke or something eats away the glue for the fabric on the ceiling of the car and makes it saggy. And also it covers the windows with a film.

When I was younger I smoked in my car. I didn't use the ashtray, I just rolled down the window.

The first four years I had my car, I would NOT smoke in it. Then I had something coming up that was making me nervous enough to break my own rule. I'm sorry I did....even keeping both front windows open as I light up, smoke and a couple of minutes after I'm done doesn't change the lingering odor.

The only car I've experienced the 'lingering odour' in is my Dad's. He uses the ashtray and leaves the butts in there forever which just makes the odour that much worse.

Maybe it's because I'm so used to the smell of my own car that I just don't notice anymore?

I don't smoke, and I don't allow smoking in my car, although the issue has rarely come up. One of the few instances that I can rememeber was when we picked up MIL from the airport in Raleigh; it was a 2 1/2 hour drive back to our house. She smoked when we stopped for gas and for a bathroom break.

Cigarette smoke is one of the most pervasive odors I can think of. Odor-cide, Febreeze and other such products seem powerless to get rid of it. Also, smoking makes you die, as does being exposed to second-hand smoke. Those are plenty good reasons for me to catagorically prohibit smoking in my car.

Agreed. I don't smoke and I sure don't let other people do it in my car. Yuck.

Does anybody know where I can have one of those "James Bond" type ejection seats that shoots the passenger out the sun roof installed on my car? That's where anybody who smokes in my car would go.

If somebody who doesn't already know me thinks about lighting up in my car, or in my house for that matter, and doesn't ask if I'm OK with it FIRST, that is seriously inconsiderate and ignorant. If they ask first, I will kindly indicate that it is not to be done. If they light up without even first asking, I will have them immediately put it out and tell them I think they were inconsiderate, forgiven, but don't do it again.

I don't smoke, except for the extremely rare Black and Mild(I'm talking maybe a pack of 5 in a year, if that many). I normally don't mind other smoking in my car, I got the car used about 4 years ago and it already had cigarette burns in the roof. I don't have a very keen sense of smell so I don't notice any odor after I have one or somebody else lights up. But I also don't know many people who smoke at all, so I'm not around smokers often.

I'm a non-smoker, and there is no smoking, as well as no eating allowed in my car. The same goes for my home, except that there it's no smoking and no alcohol.

The last time it was an issue was back home when one of Sissy's friends wanted to smoke, and since we had no ash trays, use one of my cups to catch his ashes. The jerk asked if I minded if he smoked as he was putting a cigarette in his mouth and getting out a lighter. I said yes, and he lit up anyway, then tried to feign surprise when I got upset with him. Idiot. Why ask if you're just going to ignore the response?

I dont care if people smoke in my car. We all gotta die sometime and when its my time im gonna go be it from lung cancer or falling off a cliff.

In some areas its the only place legal anymore other than a home they own. Here you can smoke in your car but ONLY if there is not a minor in the car with you.

None of those fit. I'm a smoker and refuse to smoke in my car.

When I was younger, it was because I didn't want my folks to smell it. Now I've just grown to hate the idea of smoking in my car. I'll stop somewhere for a smoke if I need it.

I tend to smoke in my car more than anywhere else. I rarely do it at work because we're too busy and once I'm home I try to keep it down to a minimum, smoking outside. This is all a clever and ingenious plan to quit...riiight.

I used to smoke (15 years or so ago) and when I did, I smoked in the car. The car always smelled like ass I'm sure because of this. The really bad part of it is my sons were having to breathe my second hand smoke and they didn't have a choice in the matter.

Now I don't allow smoking in my car or my home.
