I do Its a nice city overall. Definitly nothing spectacular, but for a family town you can hardly beat it.
http://tourerie.com/ http://www.goerie.com/ Those are two good websitesfor info on this place. Job wise is eries only downfall, its hard to get a technology based job up here. We have two hospitals, Hamot and St.Vincent. One is part of the nations leading heart related hospitals. Cost of living here is really cheap, you can get by on $8 an hour jobs. As I previously said, it is great for a family town. Wonderful place to grow up too. There is so much to do here that a lot of other cities might not have. Lake Erie provides a lot of summer fun, same goes for Presque Isle State Park. It has over 11 beaches, a large bay, and plenty of great sights. Erie nite life, while it isnt up to par with large cities, is still fun. We have tons of bars, and if you live downtown (State, Peach anywhere near 8th thru 16th st) its a bar per street corner. There are I think 4 dance clubs, 1 Comedy club (Which might I say is awesome). If you like playing Pool there is Andy's Pub (They have about 25 pool tables on two stories and Papa Johns Pizza built right into it. The place is beautiful. Another place is Fox and the Hound located near the Mall. Then theres the Millcreek Mall, biggest mall around here till you reach Pitts, Buffalo, or Cleveland. We get people from the Tri-State area and plenty from Canada that shop here. I've lived here all my life, so the awe of it has come and gone. But it has pretty much everything you could need there. We have 3 movie theaters, 1 of which is a dump. The other two (those near the mall) are great though. One is Tinsel Town USA this plays all the newest movies and we get pretty much all of them. Movies typically cost 6.75 for new ones. The other is the dollar theater, really cheap movies, but they are also a lot older. The Erie Zoo, not my thing. I dont know a lot on it, but try here: http://www.eriezoo.org/ Erie Seawolves Baseball : AA baseball, they suck, but going there on buck night is fun. (1 dollar beers) Erie Otters Hockey: good times here, its right next to Jerry Uth park (baseball). Waldameer Park: Now this place is where I spent a large portion of my child hood, and my gf and I still go here once every month or so. Its a fun amusement park, great place to go if you cant dedicate a whole day to take the 3 hour drive to Sandusky, Ohio. They also have a water park which has plenty of big slides, and long lines. http://www.waldameer.com/ We have two Race Tracks, not my thing, dont know much about them. There are 4 local colleges around here: Edinboro University of PA, Gannon University, Mercyherst College, and Penn State Berhend. So you know theres plenty of younger people, not just a bunch of old chaps. Not sure what all there is left, kinda silly ya know. I've lived here for 23 years and find trouble talking about the things we do almost every week. Fuel has been about 2.89-2.99 here all summer. Oh when you go to buy food/stuff around here, our markets are called Giant Eagle, Tops, Sure-Fine, Wal-Mart and my personal preference Wegmans (they are the best quality imo). Giant Eagle and Tops do that shopper club thing that gives fuel perks if you buy fuel from them. I just prefer the class of Wegmans. Oh yeah, we have tons of bowling alleys. 6 that I can count off the top of my head. If there is anything you need or want to know about, just ask, I'll gladly answer.

damn, Destrox, now I wanna move to Erie!
GE is one of our customers and since they have major operations in Erie, I've been there a few times. My explorations of the Presque Isle area were quite enjoyable, both in Winter when it has a more desolate kind of beauty, and in Summer when the beach and park areas offer lots of opportunities for all sorts of fun, swimming, fishing, biking, hiking, etc. I was there a few months ago and I had a great time at the downtown bar scene. One of the nicest Irish type bars where I've ever had the pleasure of getting loaded. As already stated, the cost of living is quite low, at least compared to around here, the Philadelphia area, so, comparatively, you get a lot of house/property for the money. PS: I forgot to add: invest in a good snow plow, a big snow shovel, hip length snow boot, etc. |
