5 days...
Just a little post to commemorate my nearing the 5 day mark for my Internship in KC (which many of you advised me to take about 4 months ago).
On a whole, and against some of my expectations, I had a pretty good time, and (being from NY) it was the furthest away from home I've ever been. I certainly learned a few things about myself (one in particular is that I do indeed hate cities). And the expirience has been one I will never forget. I think that it will prepare me well for a date less than a year from now when I will be graduating engineering school, and finding a real job. It has certainly broken some of my ties to an insistance on staying around home, which is good, because it will make me more employable. On the other hand, it has made me realize what beautiful country I was surrounded with my entire life, and never had the eye to recognize as being uniquely beautiful in the US. So... Five more days, and I get to turn my back on KC... Everything I cant spare for the next five days is packed, and here's to a job well done!! (I got surperb reviews on my work evaluation for the summer). I should be expecting a job offer upon grad. (which I may or may not take) but there it is. Done... And it feels good. |

Congrats! It's good to hear that the internship has gone well! And that you've experienced a fresh look on the world.

I'm really glad that you did end up taking our advice and doing the internship. It sounds like you've had a really valuable experience this summer, one that will hopefully help you for years to come in many different ways.
Sometimes all it takes is getting away from home to see how great home is, but to know we could leave it if needed is also exceptionally valuable.

Make sure to try BBQ from several sources before you leave.

If you ever have been, or will be in KC... Jack Stacks is my recomendation on BBQ. That, and the Herferd House for steaks. Both a little pricey, but at both, the company was picking up the tab so... Prime Rib, and KC strip, Excellent! |

Well college is much the same as home for me. Rural NY. As mentioned, my biggest discovery this summer was that I detest living in a city. I always figured that while I wouldn't prefer it, I could deal with it... Now, if there is every any possibility within my means to avoid whatever city I may be working in.... I will take it in a heart beat. 45 minutes is a small price to pay for comfort.
